Batman's Tumbler Replica Won't Fly On Rooftops, Ram Through Barricades or Take a Direct RPG Round
Posted by Jason Chen at 5:40 AM on September 3, 2008
This US$499 Tumbler from The Dark Knight is confusing. On the one hand, it's US$499, but on the other hand, it's a 1:6 replica of what Batman's been driving in the last two movies, PLUS it's even big enough for you to fit your 12-inch action figures in. The thing doesn't seem to be remote controlled—you'd be afraid to lose your US$499 from ramming this under a car tire anyway—but does have light-up headlights, a sliding roof panel and movable flaps. If this were only a few hundred bucks cheaper we'd be all over it, but we suppose the price is worth it just to see Brock Samson sitting in Batman's ride. [Entertainment Earth via Random Good Stuff]

It's not even out until February 2009 -- Meaning I'd have to wait 'til after christmas to be disappointed by this thing.

@PoopsieDoodle: There is, but it requires an M80.

Odds are REAL good that someone will have made a PC case mod out of this thing before the month is over.

@Kaiser-Machead on the Edge: OK I botched that up as well.
Anyway, I'm looking at the product page and it's got lights. It's OK, but I wish someone would just make a high-grade model like the kind Autoart and Kyosho/BBR produce. Mattel's version is really crappy.

@Kaiser-Machead on the Edge: Oh Christ on a cracker. 1:16, not 1:12.

1:12 scale only? Bah, does Mattel have exclusive rights to the thing being made in 1:18? Reduce the price to around BBR/Kyosho territory and make it 1:18 and it'd be on a truck to my office right now. Bah!

@otis123: A knife is not enough. It has to come with the video-locating wristwatch and color change shirts to simulate the bloody mess when it guts open alligators that sneak their way into the luggage bay.

I'll wait for the Hess version during the holiday season. For 500 dollars I could probably get 25 of them from Hess. With light up headlamps.

@BiZarRroBALlmeR: Ask yourself: Do you want a green and white plastic Tumbler? The Tumbler's back and it's better than ever, for Christmaaaaas this year....oh shuddup.

Hmm, apparently this mania has gone to wanting to build a full-working replica after that blasted post. Anyways, $500 for a plastic toy? I'd want the thing to be a bit more realistic for that much!

Hey, does anybody know where to get the original 1:6 scaled model from wallmart(i checked and they dont have it any more)? It was 99$ and i believe it was also remote controlled.

Wallmart used to have a similar 1:6 scaled model that was a remote control car. Its the one that Kevin Core originally converted into one of the worlds coolest pc cases and it was only 99$. Anyone know of a place to purchase the cheap original one as i'm pretty sure there is no difference other than the limited release of this one for 400$ more?
