Apple's September 9 Event - What Do You Want To See?
Posted by Jason Chen at 6:16 AM on September 5, 2008
Apple's September 9 event is only one lazy weekend away, but we here at Giz are already preparing for our usual liveblog directly from the event. You already know the rumours—new nanos, iTunes 8 with new features and various other things—what might be coming, but what do you want to see from us? We'll be at live.gizmodo.com, same as always, but do you want something to change? What do you want to see more of? Less of? None at all of? We'll hopefully have some fun new interactive stuff as well. Let us know in the comments, and we'll see you early morning on Tuesday, September 9 for our pre-game coverage.

A multitouch tablet aimed at students, with a mac version of onenote bundled and a price that students can afford. The last bit is probably the most pie in the sky wish, but let the rest be true!

Oh one more thing and this should be easy, I'd like a visualizer for my AppleTV instead of just the floating pictures. Something like this would be awesome on my HDTV: [www.barbariangroup.com]
Or any kind of visualizer that reacts to the sound of the music.

I want to see a new iPod Touch, just so I can finally decide whether or not I want an iPhone or a Touch.
Anyone know if you can continue using the iPhone if you aren't using it as a phone? Like, can it become a de-facto iPod Touch?
I also wanna see a new MacBook with an HDMI port.

I want to see you go there dressed up in a Microsoft shirt and Microsoft ball cap, carrying a Zune, and a Big Gulp that has the words "Microsoft's Ecosystem Rocks!" printed on it. And change your cell phone ringer to Vista boot up sound. I think it will make your live blogging experience at the Apple event a little more... interesting.

@Kaiser-Machead on the Edge: Agreed, I think as long as the iPod gives them the lead in capacity, in that form factor it may be here for a few more years.
Oh I forgot to mention, MacBook Pros...no way will anything be mentioned about these but the body style is in need of a refresh. I know some will say the mini but who cares? that's a box you put under your tv.

Dancing girls is always a hit.
Obviously some of the rumors are true, new iPods.
I'd bet the biggest news is going to be price drop on the touch and maybe a price drop on the MacBook Air.
What else hasn't been updated in a while?
Mac Mini? Do people buy them? I mean, for the price of a Mini, it's not that much more to get a full iMac that comes with a screen, keyboard and mouse.

A new, high capacity, non touch iPod.
The touch is an amazing device but the expensive flash memory and the music browsing software don't make it as good as previous iPods for true music fanatics. It takes too long to browse through large collections, and too much effort to do menial tasks like adjusting volume. I'm asking for an ipod classic that is not slow and has a bigger screen (like a Zune-style device). I think it would truly be a shame for apple to completely abandon the wheel for it's music devices.

@rockstarjoe: I agree faster iTunes would be better also if they could make it easier to find the folder where all of you're music is stored (on PC) that would be great too.
And hopefully we will get to see a new mac book because I'm trying to save up for one and I'd be pretty pissed off if i just go out and buy one and then apple decides to release a new mac book just out of blue like a week after.

Tell you what I'd like to see, is that you just make sure that none of the Apple stuff slips into the no Apple RSS feed, clogging everything up for me. There were a ton of tagging issues around the iPhone release that let stuff get through. I've had it turned off for a while but if this event is going to make things go nuts I'll be putting it back.
Oh, and try not to strain your right hands from too much... typing...

I want to see Steve Jobs and Bill Gates playing Hold'Em, with Jobs holding a new Zune Phone thing that runs Midori, and Gates on an iPhone.... lol jk.
I want to see a new iPod Touch with speakers and a better battery at the most. I gotta go return my old iPod Touch to Costco to get me a new one when Costco gets their shipment in, lol. Gotta love the 90 day return thing, perfect timing. :D
But I'm thinking that Apple is gonne do away with the iPod Classic line, replace it with super high capacity Nanos (don't really see the advantage of a nano, it's like a shuffle with a small screen?), and probably beefing up the Shuffle. Making the iPod Touch a "replacement" of the Classic line with a 64GB version coming out. So if you need capacity, get an iPod nano, but if you want more then get an iPod Touch. :P
Does Apple announce notebooks around this time too? Probably a slate tablet... probably not since they'd probably ship that with like OS11 (XI?) with crazy multitouch controls that would stomp on Windows 7 somehow, lol. Would be nice to see a tablet though, but OSX imo would seem like a dated OS for Apple to make a new hardware debut like a tablet, lol.

I'd have to agree with the majority of the posters-
photos, photos, and more photos.
Also, could you set your camera on a lower resolution? Currently, the photos take forever to come up, and I notice they're about 10MP. If you used your camera at 5, you'd have no apparent reduction in quality, yet they'd upload 100x faster, and also reduce the load on Giz's servers.

Some good crowd pictures. Lots of them. It's fun to look at each face in those rare crowd shots and look for familiar faces, not that I get many hits. It's actually one of the most fascinating things to see, and yet it's something we almost never see. Since you're asking, yes, do something different from the other bloggers, and give us some good crowd pictures.
Also it would be fun to have shots of the crew and info about your gear, your setup, and process. Do you compare notes and techniques with other live bloggers? Is it cooperation, coopetition, or competition? Just more meta-information about the process of what you do. Not as a main focus -- obviously you are just the "chrome" for this and the real value is in the content -- but you could have one person on the side dedicated to giving us a sideways view, even if it was not necessarily delivered live.

Beloved Gizmodo and the September 9th Live Bloggers,
Just imagine that we are on the other end, and you are us, gazing at the screen hitting refresh, trying to squeeze out as much information as we can from your sentences.
As your live-blogging on Tuesday, if your brain goes..."Would they want to know this? (Asking yourself about us readers), a general rule of thumb should be for you to think "Yes. They DO want to know this." Just hammer us with every little detail, and every possible photo you can crank out.
Think about what YOU would want to know?
So basically, just post something as you wake up and brush your teeth. Then post something else every 90 seconds until the event is over. That should be sufficient.
PS - Please don't use twitter for this. The experience is like watching someone cut a t-bone with a butter knife.
As always, I'll be here first on the 9th.

@thebear91: Plenty of people buy Mini's, in fact it was my Mini which convinced me that Apple was the way to go, and I then got a MBP. The Mini makes a perfect media centre, and the form factor goes really well in a living room setting - much better than having a PC box IMHO

@Vestan_Pance:
DEFINATELY!!!!!!! Mac Minis rule for a home media setup, and with wifi, you also have access to all your other files, web, iTunes rentals, etc. I work on a 109" LCD projector on mine and it rules!!!! Nothing like Photoshop on a screen that large, Or ESPECIALLY my Xbox!! Holy Crap... it will go up to 300" but I don't have that kind of real estate in my apt. But the neighbors still freak out at night when we are watching a movie on the home "Theatre" with 7.1 surround LOLOL!!! It rules...only native 1024x768 xvid but still AMAZING!!! much better than some 65" LCD flat screens I've seen (unless viewing an HD channel or BD or something and certainly a MUCH lighter hit on the budget for casual viewing where you don't HAVE to have HD (Mines an Epson LCD (3CL) ? I think, but still looks wonderful HD or not. and was only 499.00. I us my 32" Olevia for HD and it looks great too, amazing in fact for people on a budget this little guy pumps it out and at a reasonable price point, I think it was like 599.00 when I bought a few months back on sale at CC. The HD Projector versions for all the "must have" HD people out there are much more, but mine is still super fun nonetheless, and my bulbs last 2000 hours and I have had a year or so now and still 1200 hours on the bulb which is only 130.00 VS severl hundred for Nicer projectors.Anyway, FUN!!! especially Pron!!!!! J/K ;-) Anyway enough rambling and a bit off topic, but Mac Mini on a projector or large Screen with a decent tuner (5.1) and up and you are King of the Nightime world!!!!!

Please use your "Strong Arm" influences to encourage Apple to release a firmware update to unlock the bluetooth stack on iPhone for complete A2DP listening. It's ridiculous it's "locked" and limited to it's true capabilities. Then we can stream to BT headphones and car decks and lose some more wiring etc. Go Green Apple!!!! We don't need any damn cables....roll with the changes, you sponsor "Product Red" (I Think), now start a "Project Green" campaign. And lets us Go Wireless!!!!!!

@codemagic:
Check out Simplify media!!!! Streams iTunes or just a regular folder of mp3s to iphone, another PC, receiver etc. I have only used the iPhone setup and it takes a bit to "build your library" in the background, but retains it once it's done even if you shut off the phone, it remembers your collection, but works well even on EDGE connection and better over WIFI, when I go to work or am driving, I have 32,000 or so at my leisure. I just hit shuffle and got all my music Virtually with me. Or at a friends etc. like having a jukebox in your pocket, plug in some headphones to a receiver, Cd player etc. and hit Aux channel on the tuner and you are the king of the party....

I would like a good, graphical, in-depth liveblog.I would also like a sort of nano-ish thing with a touch screen and a click wheel, because the click wheels are great for scrolling and the touch screen is great for most other things.

I want to see the tough questions asked as they announce new products / upgrades / new versions. Examples:
1) iTunes: Will this new version also bring better performance on the Windows side? We know Apple prides itself on great execution of software, but are they only good enough to make that happen on the Mac OS side and not XP / Vista?
2) iPhone: If they don't have Copy / Paste, will the question be asked, "At what point will Apple adhere to the voice of the millions that purchase their products and give them Copy n' Paste as well has a horizontal keyboard when doing text messaging?"
My point? What I want? I want Team Giz to NOT go all girly eyes when they see the new stuff / enhancements. I want you guys to quickly identify the shortcomings and use your time with the Apple staff to get those questions answered as to "Why Not!"
All of the other media outlets will cover that other stuff. But if you guys find the time to get questions answered that we all want to know...that would set you guys apart from the rest.

What I would like to see from you?
Well you wearing a shirt saying:
I paid 600€ for my iPhone, and every 2 weeks I have to make a factory reset!
the iPhone is very unreliable, and Steve should feel that awkwardness in the room... you know... the feeling that people won't be clapping after each sentence cuz they are pissed with his company work...

I'd like to see you guys unlock an iPhone 3G right before the event begins. If not, just lots of pictures and detailed info will be great! If there is time for questions, please ask Steve where are the MMS app and the video recording app (if it's not included in firmware 2.1). If Apple doesn't provide one, it should at least let a third-party developer create one for those who wish to have those apps!
