Apple Accidentally Leaks, Unleaks iTunes 8 (It's a Hoax)
Posted by Matt Buchanan at 11:30 PM on September 8, 2008
At least one person says he was able to download a release candidate of iTunes 8 last night, after a mysterious, out-of-place "Download Now" button appeared in the middle of the iTunes webpage last night. It's not totally inconceivable—iPhone 2.0 was leaked before it officially launched. We've got support docs that reference iTunes 8 showing up in Asia too. Update: There's a reason we use that bright orange "unconfirmed" sign above posts—the whole thing is a bullshit hoax, move along. We'll see iTunes 8 tomorrow.
Unfortunately, the dude who's reporting this says he had been using iTunes 6.0 (so why click on the bizarro download button now?) so he's not sure what's new, only that it's a "HUGE upgrade" from 6.0. His fear of Apple's swift and terrible fury is conveniently preventing him from offering up a download.
iTunes 8 is expected to be packed with new features: a Pandora-like "Genius" smart playlist, HD TV downloads, a trippy visualiser, and maybe one other surprise feature. Right now we're kinda sceptical, so if you managed to grab it, please let us know. [UFailPix via AppleInsider - Thanks Erick!]

probably a fake, and i'll tell you why, the png with the "download now" graphic in the site contains not only the button, but the big "iTunes 7" above it too. it's unlikely that they'll change the way the do things with the site for this, but you never know.

This post is nothing without validating screenshots.
If he can take a screenshot of the Download Now button and MS-paint it - he can take screenshots of iTunes 8 in action.
I call fuckery on this one.

@HJTravels: YES, I DO! I would like to get rid off the shitty iTunes 7.0
I hope they made some major design changes. I think that the current version is the worst way to navigate through libraries. I hate to say, but if I didn't have an iPod touch... I would immediately replace it with Windows Media Player... and that's already something...

iTunes is the shit. And by the shit I mean runs like shit. Even on my Mac it's starting to get too bloated. And XP or even worse Vista? Forgetaboutit. I imagine this release will further this trend.

Well put... that's exactly how I feel. The worst part is I get my voice mail messages sent to my email. When I play them, they are opened in iTunes. The issue is if I don't delete them, they are synced to my Nano.

iTunes, like many applications, use numbers to denote major releases, or "versions". The current version of iTunes is 7 and it's rumored that version 8 will be released on Tuesday.
iTunes 6 was released in October of 2005.

I don't have any screenshots though, but it's true. True, people.. trust me.

I'm an updates junkie. I need updates even if I don't need them (get it?). It's about time my Apple updater complains about me having an old version of something. HP and Microsoft haven't given me anything for a long while apart from an Updates Agent update which hardly quenched my updates thirst. Chrome also released an update which I downloaded but I have no idea what was actually updated (couldn't find a list of changes). In those times is when I rush to boot Ubuntu and enjoy frequent updates there. Am I the only one?
Apple, just release the dang thing!

I've read two posts this morning, both of which have had "FIRST" posts.
Neither of whom have yet been banned.
One can only hope that this is the quiet prelude to the oncoming storm of banhammer-vengence and the driving of the enemies and the lamentations and the whatnot.

@awdark: "Rest of the itunes stuff I can care less about"
Awdark, just know that this post is not directed at just you, it's directed at all of the people who try to use this statement and fail - which is almost everyone. If you say you CAN care less about something it means you care about it some, and the statement contradicts the rest of your post. The correct words should be along the lines of "Rest of the itunes stuff I couldn't care less about" as this is saying you care so little, it is impossible for you to care any less. Sorry for bringing this up, but it's been so long since I've seen it used correctly.
And until the guy provides screenshots or the file he should be rejected from the internet community for being an ass. A lying, smelly, lives in his mother's basement ass.

@yoshi: Your problem has nothing to do with iTunes. You just need to change your file type/creator relationships. If you're using OS X just get info on a voicemail file and change the "open with" setting to your app of choice. Then apply the change all command.
