Amazon Tells All About Adobe Indesign CS4 By Accident
Posted by Gizmodo US Edition at 2:16 PM on September 19, 2008

Looks like somebody over at Amazon made a big oopsies and accidentally put up details of Adobe Indesign CS4 on its website long enough for Apple Insider to get a bunch of screenshots. Features for the software, which is due for a public unveiling on Tuesday, include Live Preflight, conditional text, SWF file export and other additional enhancements. Indesign CS4 will be released on November 1 and cost you $US198. [Apple Insider]

It's gonna be another half-assed suite.
CS3 is horrible.

If the SWF export works as advertised I will be getting this. And realtime preflight! Freaking awesome.

We will see, live preflighting might be pretty cool, but I'm currently digging CS3 still.

Sad that I just gotten CS3 earlier last month... nvm then I will just grab a updated copy somewhere, since I already "paid" them.

@flaxseed: I like the interface improvements. other than that it's just same old same old, but not horrible (also I'm on an intel mac so it's a lot better than CS2)

I think $198 is just the upgrade cost, the stand alone will be more...

The question will be whether they have improved the back-end of CS4 to be more streamlined and capable of more efficiently using today's emerging [emerged?] technologies.
Of course there are still plenty of niggling things throughout the suite and tons of inconsistencies from program to program that I would be happy to have addressed...
I don't remember an Adobe launch that rec'vd this much hype before, which I would typically be weary of, except that Adobe knows their products will be fleshed-out quickly and openly...
Let's hope.

Ok, someone please explain this to me. I used to use Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, like before most of you were born, and I have no idea WTF CS2, CS3, CS4 is about. I want to buy (yes, BUY - (v) to pay for...to exchange currency for merchandise...) Illustrator. My question is, WTH package does it come in now?

Oooh, definitely excited about the live preflight. Conditional text sounds interesting too, but the images are too small to read what that's all about, so I guess I'll have to wait. Either way, should be a good upgrade.

@EVEs_Mako: CS2, CS3, CS4 is the most recent numbering system given to Adobe products. The "Creative Suite" is the most up-to-date version of each app, so CS4 will be Illustrator 14, Photoshop 11, Indesign 6, Dreamweaver whatever, Flash whatever.
So you can buy Illustrator independently, but it'll still be called CS4, not Illustrator 14.

The alignment and guide improvements are worth the cost to upgrade for me.

@bspence: It's sooo expensive. Now that I'm an adult, I can see myself paying for it but what incentive is there for a kid to save up his money and buy it verses downloading it?

Gotta agree. CS3 is horrible. We've had so many issues with it at our office especially the larger file sizes that Flash makes. I've gone back to CS2.

Please...let them have all their horrible installer fixed in this new version.
Install...wait 2 hours...findout some major application (like acrobat or illustrator) didn't install... tell it to reinstall...wait 2 more hours to find out they still did not install correctly. Go online to look up some obscure error code - waste another hour...etc.
Aaargh!
I love the software...hate the installer.
