Windows Media Centre Offers 'Olympics on the Go'
Posted by Sean Fallon at 7:39 AM on August 9, 2008
If you and your DVR are having trouble keeping up with all of the Olympics coverage, Microsoft is offering Media Centre users the opportunity to catch up with on-demand content. All you need to do is launch Windows Media Centre on a PC or laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium or Windows Vista Ultimate and scroll down to Online Media. There you will find a link to activate "NBC Olympics On The Go." (Can also be activated via the NBC site). The content is said to be "up-to-HD quality," whatever that means, so you should get a decent look at your favourite events.
AU: Needless, to say, this won't be working for Australians.[Olympics on the Go]

@Cordfucious v 2.0.1: you're SOL, and anyone running vista x64. I actually reloaded my media center with x86 for the wife so she could take advantage of the plugin.

When I click on the icon, it gets to the "Install Now" page and then locks up my media center. No idea what's going on.

Sorry, there is no Internet TV content available in Canada.
Awesome. I get 3 NBC stations on my HDTV, but can't watch their online stream..

@jonnypage: Don't think you can watch any US Media online as it's not controlled by the CRTC.

@kratos76:
as of the 8/5 AndreSala from from Wavexpress/TVTonic seemed to be hinting that an x64 version wasnt going to be available in time for the olympics in a post over at thegreenbutton.com

I do love the Vista Media Center. I will REALLY love it if it gets Blu-Ray support!

Big, big note.
Software and programmes available to US CITIZENS ONLY.
The rest get stuffed, we can't think of a way of milking you dry, so we can't be bothered.

@drg40: Maybe if people in your country didn't insist on spelling "programs" all funny like that, we might share.

Another big boo, it doesn't work on non-intel macs.

@bnydam: I'm using it on an Intel Mac.. The quality is pathetic, I'm de-installing this shit the SECOND I don't need it (after the olympics). Like another poster said, This makes Youtube look like HD.
And I can't stand how MS forces it down your throat w/o any real gains in quality. Just more Half-assed Bullshit coming out of Redmond.
Can't they at least TRY to capture my imagination once in a while.

Saw this last night on my HTPC, but didn't mess with it. Might have to check it out after hearing about how amazing the opening ceremony was.

Vista Media Center x64 freezes when I click the button. "Install Now" screen is displayed, but can't do anything...not even close VMC. Have to end the process.

@ReynaldoRiv: I don't see how Microsoft "forces it down your throat". It's your choice to install the thing, you know. I get fine image. No actual HD, but nothing that bad.

Tried it, too crappy. Can't believe I fired up VMC for this crap. I'm going back to my Meedio install on my HTPC.

Worked great and looked great on my machine and my Xbox 360 Media Center Extender. What I couldn't stand was Lenovo's damn goat boy singing "Sorry that we lost your files, here's some fruit to make you smile, hoo-ha" over and over and over.
Less commercials is nice, but if it's the same commercial everytime, you hit a limit of what you can stand.
