Who Cares What These Glasses Do, They Make for a Great Picture
Posted by Mark Wilson at 1:40 AM on August 8, 2008
What a fantastic photograph. We could tell you the mundane truth behind what these glasses really are and what they really do, but let's not spoil it. Let's just enjoy a moment of unadulterated imagination by staring at these electronic clouds, molding them to any purpose we like. [ladyada's tea party via MAKE]

As the original poster/creator says... [ladyada.net]
"it's built with a resonatorless boarduino. the audio outputs are the OCR1A, (pin 9), and OCR1B, (pin 10) and the leds are connected to PORTC, (analog pins 1-6). i built it without a resonator so i could maybe build the thing into a sleep mask using a lilypad board from sparkfun. also figured i could port it to run on the minipov board which also lacks a resonator." ... here ya go, Pal...[gizmodo.com]

Congratulations, Mark. You are the only person to actually get a pair of actual factual X-Ray Specs from the back of a comic book.
Wear them with pride (but keep yer peepers off Curves, Lindsay, KarinaBob, and Carmen)

@faabshaam: My reputation? I looked, and was disturbed. Even my gf commented on it being disturbing at the time. I guess if you want to attribute something negative to having an adverse reaction to an overly endowed 14 year-old you're welcome to it.

@Xavoc: a 14 year old? You really risked your reputation by addressing the "jiggle" on a 14 year old.

@Git Em SteveDave displays attention-grabbing vanity: Dunno, I saw a 14-year-old w/ a jiggle that most grown woman would envy a few weeks back. It was actually quite disturbing.
@iSmithx: Thank you for noticing! Now if you'll follow me to the waterboarding display we need someone to stand in for the orange suited robot.

@Git Em SteveDave displays attention-grabbing vanity: That was actually my first thought, but unless those are very special LEDs I doubt they produce very accurate day-spectrum light...

It's the visual component for an all-inclusive sensory-output/input control platform for the future robot replacements for human bodies. Research is heading toward direct brain-stem integration and deliberate enhancement of neural communication to allow our brains to evolve and expand its capabilities to harness all potential for current and future mechanical/electrical technology (via thought).
At least, that's what I thought of right away... Anybody else?

Maybe they're designed to keep you awake for longer.

Ha all wrong. Neither Lucid Dreaming glasses or xray specs, but a brainmachine based off of ladyada's miniPOV v.3. The code for the LEDs make them flash at certain frequencies causing a supposed meditated state. In addition to the LEDs, headphones are worn to provide a similar frequency audial stimulation to the visual stimulation. The regular kit has red LEDs but this person may have used blue as blue are not an option when ordering.
How do I know all of this? I built a pair.
