Update: Screen Grab Allegedly Confirms $199 Xbox 360 Price Cut Rumour

The US$199 Xbox 360 price cut rumour we reported on yesterday got a little more real today after a screenshot surfaced showing the updated SKU for the Arcade model. VGChartz got the scoop, and noticed that the September 7 release date for the updated SKU coincides with some other big Xbox 360 events: the launches of Square Enix's Infinite Undiscovery and Rock Band 2. Both titles are Xbox 360 exclusives around the price drop time frame (although as Kotaku notes, Rock Band 2 comes out for other systems in November). [VGChartz via Kotaku]

vgcrapz did not get the scoop. it was a vgcrapz poster who posted the illegally-obtained screenshot on vgcrapz who quickly did what it always does and claimed this to be an "exclusive." This isn't an exclusive. Microsoft didn't give vgcrapz anything.

@urbanturban666: dude, I remember when laser pointers were $200, and I was lucky to have access to them as a student. A few years later, I bought one for maybe $30, but now they are indeed just a few dollars at the gas station.
Then green laser pointers were a fee hundred dollars. When they came down to ~$20, I grabbed one of those as well. Now, I'm waiting on blue. . .

Confirmed, So we are preparing for that Xbox 720? I guess. By the way, What is the name for Xbox 360's successor going to be anyway? That's the $360 question. /pun

@ludwigk: i think they used to cost even more!!! and only worked for like 20 ft lol... the first one i got to play with cost a buddy 50$...now for a buck or two you can pester ppl in buildings across the street and whatnot.
now if only the ps3 and logitech g25 dropped in price...

What's funny is, you could already get a Xbox 360 on ebay with like 10 really good games for about $200 already, No tax or anything

When I read "$199 price cut". I logically assumed the grammar was correct and they were cutting the price by $199, and I nearly soiled my slacks. Then I realized it was a grammatical error. Now I'm crying, and wondering how much I will have to sell fixed RROD xboxes for.

Now the SuxCox 360 is almost worth buying...wait, what am I saying? Even though it's cheaper now, I'm still not paying several hundred dollars for an ugly hunk of crashtastic plastic that only has about 4 games worth buying.
PS3, PSP, DS, Wii, and PC will live happily ever after in my entertainment center. If a 360 comes into my possession, I will take it to the shooting range.

Is anyone else surprised to see that the list cost of the Xbox is $271.50? Am I just monumentally naïve or is the retail margin of consumer electronics really that low? Tell me that this store is getting more than $8.50 gross profit on a $280 item.
