T-Mobile's 2008 BlackBerry Roadmap Leaked - Javelin and 8220
Posted by Jason Chen at 3:20 AM on August 8, 2008
T-Mobile might not have the widest selection of phones, but they do have a certain love for BlackBerry that you can't deny. BlackBerryNews has the leaked roadmap of the BlackBerries T-Mobile is carrying for the rest of the year, which includes new colours for the Pearl, the 8220 and the Javelin. BBNews notes that all these phones will have at least OS 4.5, with the Javelin going all the way up to 4.6.1. No BlackBerry Bold though, unfortunately, as that's an AT&T-only deal for the near future. As a side note, the 8220 might also be called the BlackBerry Pearl 8220, seeing as they love the Pearl branding. [BlackBerry News]

@digiprod: That's only because the laggy keyboard made you hit the "1" key twice.

@GeekyNerdGuy: I hope you are a woman. Because otherwise, you have a disturbing collection of knick-knacks on your curio shelf.
My friend Chris Hansen would like to talk to you.
Have a seat...

While you can't deny T-Mobile's love for BlackBerry, you can deny T-Mobile's love of being competitive. Thunder/Storm is on Verizon and the Bold is on AT&T.
Of course, if you want a BlackBerry Pearl in hot pink or with a "dragon tattoo", then yes, T-Mobile is your place to go.

@OMG! Ponies!: Frequently labeled as the best customer service. Gained 600,000 new customers last quarter. I'd say they like being competitive. You must be the guy that Sprint is after. Service secondary. Gadgetry first. That's okay by me but I prefer quality service and it seems you really can't get both from a carrier in the U.S..

I love Tmo and have got nothing except excellent service from them, but they really dont do much to lock up the good phones.
I personally think service providers shouldnt be able to lock phones to them specifically, they are there to provide SERVICE, not gadgets. Basically all I want Tmobile to do is give me great coverage and a reasonable rate, and let me buy the devices from someone else!
Its like if Comcast was the exclusive provider of HDTV's... not cool

I don't know what tmobile or att you're on, but the att I know and abhore is the one that likes to try and sneak misc. mischarges on every bill and wallow in ignorance when asked about why my dsl is down. or when they're actually going to come install it.
vice versa, i've been on tmo for 4 years and even edge has been decent. coverage is usually pretty good as well, just lacking in areas like basements and west texas. although, phones do make a huge difference. my samsung d900 got no signal while my bb curve gets signal everywhere; better than att on campus actually.

@Thrillcekr: Still in 4th place. Sprint is in 3rd Place. [www.nytimes.com] They might like to be competitive, but they're still pulling up the rear.
As far as call quality goes, it's a mixed bag. Often, my old PEBL had better reception than my BlackBerry. However, the crap EDGE service was too painful to be usable. I don't know if that's T-Mobile or just EDGE. I haven't had Sprint in about a decade, nor have I had Verizon in six years.
T-Mobile's customer service was nothing special. AT&T's is about the same as well. Customer service doesn't get people jazzed.

i can say right now that service is more important plus i am willing to wait with tmobile seeing as they are actually like one of the only carriers to offer unlimited data and they are going to do so to when 3g comes out. no 5 gb capping pure unlimited and when it does i will get rid of my crappy dsl and just use my phone as a modem. see the thing about tmo 3g is that there using 1700 for down and 2100 for up so its going to be better then att if it ever comes out. or unless att changes theres.

I PRAY that this is BS, and T-Mo is getting the Bold. Is anyone else getting nervous that T-Mo's 3G phone selection has already caught the suck? Get with it, T-Mo, for christ's sake. We waited forever for 3G, and we get ... the blackberry flip phone? Snore.
