ThinkPad X200 Tablet Revealed in Spec Sheet
Posted by Matt Buchanan at 5:39 AM on August 8, 2008
Well, look at what's hiding out in the spec sheet for the X200 UltraBase docking station: a listing for a ThinkPad X200 tablet. The X200 is a perfect size for a tablet, and it'd solve our slight anxiety over just having the nub as an input. If it had some capacitive multi-touch like Dell's Latitude XT in addition to being bulletproof like ThinkPads ought to be, consider us sold (if it's not, you know, some insane price). it's a base. Yeah, maybe it supports the Tablet, but that does not mean they'll sell it here. I think this is just wishful thinking and nothing more. Of course, hope is not a bad thing :)

The little nub is great. Touchpads are a bit of waste of real estate on a laptop. But isn't the X200 not all that different from the x61, which also comes in tablet form? I ordered an x61 the day before the X200 announcement. I was disappointed for a minute until I saw that they were just about the same. I've been using the X61 for several weeks now and though I think it's great, I can feel the difference between the old IBMs (previous X series laptops I've owned) and the Lenovos. Just a bit of flimsiness has crept in. I probably won't get a new laptop for a few years but I may now venture away from the thinkpad if they start to move away from their former reputation of quality.

@froggy: Not really wishful thinking. The x200 series is more or less a replacement of the X61s, which have a tablet iteration, and there have already been specs floating around.
