Silverlit RC Ducati Motorcycle Racer Leans Into Turns Around Your Furniture
Posted by Jack Loftus at 3:00 AM on August 11, 2008
There are plenty of RC cars and motorcycles out there today, so what Silverlit did with this 1:12 scale red racer is throw on a working driver and let him have some say in where the sportbike is going. Thanks to an on board gyro, the rider actually leans from side-to-side, just like those crazy guys I see whipping around European courses on Speedvision. The US$96 racer also has an active throttle control and spring suspension, which you'll see in the video, just in case you like to name your RC motorcycle racers Evel Knievel.
The RC Ducati hits kitchen floors this September. [Red 5 via Geek Alerts]

these things are fun for 5 minutes, until you run it into something... then the steering gets misaligned and it's nearly impossible to fix. you now have a $96 toy that only rides in a 3' circle.

Didn't Tyco or another company already do the leaning rider thing? I could swear they did, but it's still cool. I always like the little things that make things more realistic, like a pellet gun that slides after each shot. Serves no usefull purpose, but still awesome.

@calebc: Ditto! That makes it much better than the cheapo Kawasaki Ninja I got in '96. This might make my Christmas list.

The audio does not seem to be working for me, so maybe it was pointed out, but I was impressed to see it actually uses countersteering (@1:06)

This does look fun but nonetheless, it's been done before.

I've seen this done before, but this looks more like a more sophisticated implementation. Of course, any advertisement is bound to make the product look better than it really is.

kyosho did this first & best with their "hanging on rider" or as it's commonly known the "HOR.". As it was done by an actual RC company you could get replacement parts& upgrade parts. Since they stopped production, several toy companies have emulated the design. Fun for sure but RC motorcycles are understandably prone to crashes, so without replacement parts, drive with caution! Oh, and unless you really want to break your new toy, don't send it off a ramp like in the video, notice they don't show it driving away from that landing. :-)

takes me back to when I was a boy and had one of those toy bikes you had to yank a plastic pull chain through to rev it up then it would barrel down the 'runway' and you could jump it and shit. fun back then, but these days I'll take a real bike thanks very much.

I wish they made the RC model after Valentino Rossi instead of Casey Stoner.

Thats really old tech for RC motorcycles. The Kraft RC motorcycles that came out in the 70s or so, this was the only way it could turn by sifting weight around on top. The front forks did not move. Anyways....just buy a Thunder Tiger RC motorcycle and move along.

I 2nd a Rossi / Yamaha and I'll get both. Next I'll give my wife Stoner and we'll recreate the 08 Laguna action over and over again...
