Sakku Solar Bags Made From Recycled Sails
Posted by Gizmodo US Edition at 3:00 AM on August 3, 2008
Solar bags are a great way to charge all your gadgets while out and about, but Switzerland-based bag maker Sakku one ups the green aspect by making its bags out of recycled sails. Each Sakku Buddy comes stamped with a "story" listing the name of the lake or sea which the boat that used the sail is located. Each bag has a 2.5W solar panel and is big enough to contain a 17" notebook. Currently only available in Europe, the Buddy costs either US$275 or US$385, depending on whether you get the chargeable battery option. [Sakku US page via Coolest Gadgets]

Hi. The sakkus on the pictures above are made of recycled sunshades and umbrellas ;-). But right: We also have sakkus made of used sails from sailboats, but thei're mostly white :-)

YO! Swiss dude here. :-) I got one of the bags!! Can't believe it finally made it to gizmodo. It's tight! Actually I got a black one, my colleagues love it...just wish there was more sun in Switzerland. ;-)

Meh. It only comes in white unless you order over a 100 of these, and the solar panel is only good for smaller devices like phones or PDAs, but no notebook solution is as yet available. Handy, I guess, but not $385 handy.

By the way, the Sakku Buddy isn't made from sails. That's the Sakku Traveler. The Sakku Buddy has yet to be released, and it's made of designer fabric.

when you consider how many cotton plants were killed to make that many bills, it's not eco friendly at all.

I don't think many people are going to bring 385 dollars to buy this. They'd probably use credit card.

@dobbybabee: umm that was clear sarcasm, especially when one considers that a lot of cotton is picked w/o actually killing the plant.

@jkr2:
You must be talking about outside the US because here it kills the plant 100% of the time.
