Possible Pictures of Upcoming MacBook Leaked
Posted by Sean Fallon at 6:15 AM on August 5, 2008
Could these be images of the upcoming MacBook? Possibly, if you believe information leaked from a Taiwanese website. Despite falling in line with rumours that the new MacBooks would be decked out in aluminium like the Pros, these images are confusing and could be Photoshopped so, as always, take rumours like this with a grain of salt. A kevlar MacBook would be sweet but it would raise the cost alot. Apple said they were trying to lower it.
Or they might just want to lower profit in which case would make since to make a kevlar laptop.

As usual, if Apple tells the web sites hosting those pitctures to remove them, then they were real.

I believe it has a lot to do with Apple's secrecy. This mysteriousness generates a level of excitement and anticipation that also applies to America's voyeuristic fascination with celebrity's lives, UFOs, and other unknowns.

Rounded edges are so 2001. (with exception of current iPhone design)But for a new generation of notebooks, edges should be sharp (Ref: VooDoo Envy 133). I think that would be a nice refresh for MBP/MB line. and keep it grey/metal/aluminum or whatever the exterior material is made of with current MBPs.

I find it absolutely amazing and in the most positive way, how Apple generates this level of intense interest. Akin to Britney Spears generated revenue calculated somewhere, I wonder what Apple's is. The google words sold, the page views, etc... It must be making millions...
Is there anything that compares to this mania? Are there websites that drool on new Ford pr0n? Rolex watches? Non-streak makeup from Maybeline around the corner? Perfectly round watermelons from Idaho?
Anything?

I hate this brushed aluminum...After owning a black Macbook and now Air...I'm hoping they come up with a less Scratchable material for all of their products.
Like Kevlar.

Top is a rectangle with a centered-logo lighting cover.
Bottom image is a square? with offset logo?
WTF...are people just desperate for me-first image-whores?

@K-SO:
Macbooks aren't aluminum or whatever that metal is. Only the Air's and Pro's are. Regular Macbooks currently are white or black. So if those were indeed Macbook pics they would be new.
That being said, who knows if these are new or not? I looked at the off-center-logo one closer and it actually looks like there's something over the left side of the cover in that pic, so the logo isn't way off-center.
Anyway, these kinda just look like pics of an Air lid to me.

@K-SO: Macbooks aren't aluminum.
The logo is off center, which basically violates anything Steve Jobs would find acceptable.
Its orientation means that the logo would be rotated 90 degress counter clockwise when the notebook was opened.
Also, the logo is stretched in an unnatural manner. Objects when viewed from an angle shorten, not lengthen in size. Thus why lettering on roadways (School Zone anyone?) are stretched out in height, yet appear normal when looking at them from an angle/distance.
I'm going to have to call BIG ASS FAKE.

So if this is real, (which I doubt) then we've just learned a few things about it. It's not the Macbook Touch, and it's sort of ugly. I'll be sticking with the old Macbook thank you.

First off, it reeks of Shop. The iPhone color-bar leaked photos were at least taken IRL, whereas this is an unmistakeable render.
Second, the real question is whether Giz or the other site(s) got a C&D letter. That's usually the real test as in the iPod Fatty.

Although other companies are secretive about their products, I don't know of any that are as secretive as Apple. Probably not the only reason though. Apple's customers are loyal, which has a lot to do with it I'm sure.

Looks like it will in September. Im surprised Apple did't pull it off yet.
The proportions are right people, the image is distorted and the case is covered by packaging material. How can no one see this. Logo is not stretched. Just a bad camera, or taken by iPhone.

@justinpe: Pretty much they hide their gear as fiercely as they do in order to save as much "BOOM" for Jobs's product announcements as possible.
They are actually pretty damn innovative when it comes to overall system design. I think their cooling solution of one of their laptop models was hailed as a design breakthrough by a tech magazine.

Also, the hinge design looks off.
The mono-hinge design is basically an old Jobsian decree, and it has gone through a couple of iterations to fix issues created by it. I doubt they would go back to the old design when Jobs thinks it looks like crap to begin with...
The first two could maybe, sort of be real, but they don't look quite right, especially the noted hinge bit. The 3rd photo has the logo all FSCKED up. You don't change how your logo is recognized by rotating it 90 degrees and stretching it in a manner that is skewed.
The "leaked" photos we've already seen of the "new" MBP (supposedly) still show the logo in the proper location, and properly oriented, and not stretched strangely.

White background - check!
One squared-off corner - check!
Apple logo wildly off-center - check!
Seriously, real is as good as fake anymore. With the furious 'shopping before a product announcement, Apple shouldn't be worried even if they shot a million of 'em on conveyor belts.

@Joseph: For standard applications like Safari and iDVD, yes. But there's a reason "Pro" is in the name. The Pros perform far, far better in professional apps like FCP and Photoshop. A dedicated video card and greater RAM capacity are the big reason for this. You will not find anyone that takes themselves seriously using FCP on a MacBook.

I will attempt to translate what the original site ([tw.apple.pro]) said:
"God, 10s of companies and dealers started writing mail to ask me about the new MacBook Pro's dimensions and size. I refuse to tell, so what? I'm not afraid of the consequences of telling everyone, but the question is why do I have to do so? We aren't friends, not even acquaintances, so at least ask me nicely. Oh well, I'm not gonna talk about this anymore.
This time Ariel brought us tasty new info again. Everyone already knows that next month there's some good stuff getting renovations. Of course this includes the MacBook... out of the MacBook series, only the MacBooks use plastic. It's finally time for the series to unify...
According to the following images you can tell that the MacBook is joining its siblings with the new aluminum cover. I'm sure everyone can also see the corners. Apple loves to do this. And everyone's asking about the Apple logo and it not being illuminated? Well I'm sure you can see for yourself from these images. And regarding the next two images... that's just a peek, just stay tuned to my reports.
And another thing, if MacRumors thinks that this is fake again, we can only say that you guys are too blurred from reality."
I don't know if my translation is 100% correct! Please try not to quote me or anything.

Am I the only one who sees the foam case that the outer face of the LCD is partially obscured by? Everyone is calling "FAKE" on this, but it seems plainly obvious that the image's aspect ratio is not in line with the rest of the set (see corners of the panel) and that the foam is sitting above a portion of the case, thus covering a segment and making it seem as if the logo is off-center. The very same set of images confirm that the logo is, in fact, centered, and that the backlight collection filler plate for the apple logo is fairly similar to those used in current production models.
My bet is on not fake, but I honestly would prefer to see it in black. Brushed metal has never appealed to me as a laptop dressing. I guess I'm too much of a Thinkpad fanboy.

The logo may be rotated 90 degrees because the new MacBook might be intended to be held vertically, like a book. The logo's offset might indicate which end of the book is the end to be opened.
