PlayStation 3 Firmware 2.5 To Bring Screengrabbing?

Not so long ago, we published the 10 things that we still wanted in the PlayStation 3 firmware. Now according to gaming site CVG, at least one of those requests will be checked off the list with Sony's upcoming firmware 2.5. (Sony really loves us!!) Specifically, screengrabbing is said to be on the way. And as minor as that may sound, it's a useful update that could allow (high rez?) captures of not just any gaming moment but movies as well. So sales of the Blu-ray versions of Wild Things and Gia should go through the roof. Wait, do people actually still watch Wild Things? Are girls kissing still cool? [CVG via Kotaku]

One of the other things you asked for, automatic installs, is actually there already, sort of. If you don't move it to a background download and sit there watching the status bar the whole time, it will install it for you at the end of the download. But you still have to do it yourself if you do a "perform in background".

@phoomp: I guess they'll always keep failing, since screen stills almost always accompany published film reviews, both online and printed.

Screengrabbing is fine for such instances, but I prefer real-life grabbing in this case. Like I say, "Why have an affair, when you can just have a threesome?"

Unfortunately, history shows us that downloading this update will likely brick your PS3, meaning the only "screenshots" people will be making are the kind with their guns at their TVs when it happens to them.

yeah, i've never had any bricking issues with firmware updates , and there've been quite a few since i bought my ps3 last summer. Screen grabs would be sweet though, as long as there's a way to transfer them back to your computer.

no the coolest thing for the ps3 would be if it got hacked for homebrew but that is taking forever might as well just wait for the ps4 and not buy the ps3.

Yes, girls kissing are still cool, but just when the girls are hot, ugly girls, on the otherhand, should avoid any kind of kissing, specially those caught on tape.
