Photochopped R2-D2 USB Beverage Cooler Can Be Yours, Actual Product or Not
Posted by John Mahoney at 2:45 AM on August 7, 2008
Add this one to the "ouch, ouch, ouch" Photoshop bin. Yeah, I can use the pen tool to smoothly decapitate R2 and throw a Coke can top and USB cord in too. What I can't do, though, is build an actual USB beverage can cooler out of a shrunken R2-D2 model. Which I would want. It's up for pre-order at Play.com for US$36--whether you get a layered .PSD or an actual cooler, though, remains to be seen. [Product Page via Nerd Approved]

You just gotta love the totally mismatched perspectives of the 3 elements in the composite.

Or you could just photoshop an even bigger USB cable into it, leave R2 as he is and just call him a fancy shmancy webcam.

Couldn't you just buy a USB can cooler and retrofit it into a R2-D2 model? I feel a project a brewing...

Maybe if it were the other way around... I know some hardcore Trek fans that would love to drink Romulan Ale out of R2D2's skull.

Does it come with the head for when you don't have a can in it?

Okay - that's what I want. An R2-D2 web cam. With motion tracking. Yes.
However, I do find it incredibly funny that the specs for this cooler are nothing more than a preview for the animated movie.
For specs on this cooler, please see movie. yeah. See that little robot dude - this looks kinda like him. Yeah. Uh-huh.

This is an actual product I have one sitting by my desk at home. ;-)

I especially like how the cord connects to R2D2 himself nowhere at all. Is that an iPod cable?
If it actually chilled soda, I'd sit one here at my desk at work :D
Does it work well dsenier?

This would be easy to make. Get one of those CoolItSystems.com USB chillers for thirty bucks and mount it in this voice-controlled R2-D2 robot:
Only $170 at Hammacher-Schlemmer... and for less than two bills you should be able to keep a $1.09 Pepsi cold, or at least cool.
Then again, $200 will buy a cheap styrofoam cooler and about fifty bags of ice at your local convenience store.

Shouldn't the red R2 unit that pops it's top in episode IV be more appropriate?

Its a scam. Remember the video with the USB that cooks stuff? Its a government plot to make you think it is a cooler, when in fact it will cook your soda. Damn you USA and your conspiracies!!! DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL!!!
