Panasonic Updates 103-inch Plasma, Drops Price by One Car
Posted by Mark Wilson at 12:45 AM on August 27, 2008
The good news: Panasonic announced their newest 103-inch plasma, which will have updated features such as 10000:1 contrast ratio, 4 HDMI ports, Deep Colour and x.v.Color support, not to mention a US$20,000 price drop. The bad news: it'll still cost you around US$50,000. In addition to the aforementioned features, the most incredible use of the gigantor display might be viewing photos and AVCHD home videos through the built-in SD port. Available now only in Japan, we're pretty sure that if you have the money to buy the television, you have the money to get Japan's friendly locals to load the 340kg set onto a boat or something. So basically, it went from a student loan down to an E-class.

103 inches? Isn't that bigger than most walls of your average Japanese dwelling that we are stereotypically familiar with?

screen itself weighs about 500 pounds. there's three input card slots on the back, so you can have up to 6 hdmi ports (dual input cards, there may be quad input cards now though?) and a built in vga port. but really, vga at that size just doesn't cut it. 1080p over component looks decent, but dvi/hdmi is clear as day.

If I had one of these, I would be really, really poor and I would have nowhere to put it.

And Kevin Smith's fat, rich ass has recently podcasted about having purchased one. Though I'm sure he'll be a little miffed that he missed the price drop.

My company has sold a couple of these to a large defense contractor. They use it to show off their latest developments to the DoD. They asked us to integrate a touch screen overlay on it, but our overlay manufacturer couldn't handle it. The form to fill out before delivery can take place is three pages long, and it uses a dryer plug.

i work on a military base in texas. Our commander just requested one of these. When we received it, it was MASSIVE. They installed it and he decided he did not want it anymore. So he had them send it back. Our tax money buys $70k plasmas for commanders. Then they charged a $20k re-stocking fee
