Palm Treo Pro Sized Up Against Competition
Posted by Mark Wilson at 10:30 PM on August 26, 2008
Most of us can size up the functionality of a phone from its spec sheet, but a phone's practicality, usability and enjoyability falls to a whole other series of factors. Form factor is a biggie. In this clip, you'll see the Treo Pro literally sized up against the smartphone competition (including the Palm Centro, Motorola Q9H, the BlackBerry Bold, the iPhone 3G, the HTC Touch Diamond and more. If you're at work and can't play the audio track, just turn it off and you'll still get most of the effect. [CrackBerry]UPDATE: Video after jump:

Just finished; thanks for posting. Agree on the watch. The treo pro looks good; too bad it didn't come out a year ago with the new palm OS. Now it's just another winmobile phone to get stomped on by RIM. I suppose the thing is more of a proof of concept; a "don't forget about us" from Palm. I say this because no carrier has picked the thing up; you can only get it unsubsidized, direct from Palm.

So Palm has taken the exact same thing and made it slightly smaller...again.
It is kinda slick looking, but the repetition of the words "same feature set" sends up a flag.

about 1/3 of the way in, and I'm impressed by:
A: The guy's watch -Electrawoman and Dynagirl called...
B: Inspired by California, yet has enough needless packaging to choke a Sea Lion.

This device actually looks fairly nice. If Palm would upgrade their crappy OS, I might consider actually going back and trying to do some development on them. The good thing is that they are taking steps in the right direction with design and packaging. They still need a strong SDK (After using the iPhone SDK, you realize how bad other SDKs are) and a strong OS to layer on top of their devices. I am happy that Palm isn't going down without a fight.

It looks like Palm is trying to go in a new direction, with the same old stuff. Does anyone still use infrared? Surprisingly, the package really reminded me of Apple's packaging, but still too busy.
ps. Loved how this guy called LED a "lead".

Although I must admit, this is the first "good-looking" phone palm has released in... ever.

Also, before I picked up an iPhone, I thought of it as rather bulky in size, but now it appears that the form-factor is becoming the rough standard for all smart phones.

I realize a lot of people enjoy unboxing, but it's rather boring to me. If you agree, skip ahead to 2:50.

@ipodrulz:
I wish my iPhone had infared. I found it very handy to use my Palm TX as a remote (with novii remote).

So one is a calculator and the other is a coke mirror. That's what I'm pulling from this comparison.

Great comparison, but I'm going to nit-pick by asking why he didn't polish all the phones down before bringing them on camera.

In the package Palm recycling plan...put the new Treo back in the box and recycle.
