I hate the term "freeview" as it is just a marketing term to confuse the joe average. The sad reality is that it adds restrictions on what can be done with recordings (fast forward comercials, archive, etc) and how program guides are handled (was talk of encrypting them); hardly "free" view !

If Sony wanted to, playtv could have been released in Auz quite some time ago - freeview and local DTV conditions are just a smoke screen.

Reality is that Sony love to restrict what we can do with our toys so they want freeview and will likely go far beyond any restrictions freeview itself may place on such branded devices.

But what is really sad is that the new slimline PS3 does not have playtv DTV tuner integrated into the unit so you will need an overpriced box with a usb cable snaking its way to the front of the unit - plain ugly and sad to see that $10AUD of components will end up costing consumers $100's.

For me it's another Sony lost opportunity due to their greed.

Guys,
Have you heard any more about the PlayTV release date? Last time I walked into a game shop, nobodoy could tell me. I now have a need to record TV shows (wife has a new job and can't miss NCIS) but I don't want to buy a seperate recorder when PlayTV would suit my needs 110%.

Guessing they might be waiting for FreeView to come out first, so fingers crossed its not that far away now!

Come on Sony... at least give us a date to work to!

Seriously - Sony are starting to get on my nerves. I'm starting to wish I never bought a PS3.

I'll start with the local issues:
- The PS3 store is incredibly out of date. It took 5 months to get SSF2T HD Remix out here
- No pay video content. If I log into the US store I can download hundreds of hours worth of videos, tv shows etc. In Australia - nothing
- Complete lack of games. Why do we only seem to get 1/3 of the titles the US or Japan gets?

Globally
- Lack of good exclusives
- Failure to secure flagship content like GTA4 expansion packs

Sony: Get with it before the PS3 is a Dinosaur and you (console anyway) go out of business. It's just like Sega with the Dreamcast. Just because you have the best product doesn't mean you can sit on your hands.
