Netflix Up and Running Again: Offering 15% Credit to Customers
Posted by Sean Fallon at 5:28 AM on August 16, 2008
The longest service disruption in Netflix history has apparently been resolved, with normal service resuming today. The company will compensate affected customers by adding a 15% credit automatically to their next bill. [Physorg]

I think Blockbuster had something to do with this.

this may be my fault... i usually send movies back within a day of getting them... but i took a little vacation and have let them pile up in my mailbox

I signed up for my trial this past Sunday and was wondering why none of my movies had shipped yet. Lucky me, looks like I picked the best week ever to try em out.
Guess I have the Anti-Midas touch.

I would be very curious to know what cause of this disruption was. Did Blockbuster have their fingers in the Netflix pie????

@Cableguy44: We might actually have to go outside this weekend. And I was hoping to be an albino lab rat this Halloween! Foiled by Netflix.

Netflix is the best service I've used in years. I've been with them for roughly 4 months now and I really have nothing but good things to say. Even this little hiccup was handled professionally and promptly too. I even got my movie yesterday, despite getting an email saying it was delayed. Hmm, I wonder if I'll still get the credit.
Anyways, great website and interface (love the ratings system and friends). Great value, and I love the ability to watch movies instantly, though the selection isn't super great (lots of nice classics though).
I definitely prefer Netflix over Blockbuster.
(sorry if this sounds like a paid advertisement, I'm just really happy with the service!)

Sorry guys... my girlfriend dropped the last 3 movie envelopes in the sink while I was washing dishes. We let them dry out but they were still a little crumbly. We sent them in anyway. I am sure they just jammed up the system. Good thing they had a guy on hand to shut down the machine and tear them all out.

@LittleBigPlaneteer: It's ok, I often sound like a paid advertisement for Netflix as well haha. I even got my parents to sign up. I've been a member for 7 years now and haven't set foot in a Blockbuster in longer than I can remember. And with the Watch Now feature, I can stream movies from my Vista PC to my Xbox 360 which I use as a media center extender on my TV. I can't wait until the Watch Now library expands a bit, I figure it will happen once the xbox dashboard support comes out in a few months or the Roku box starts selling more.
This service hiccup didn't effect me cuz I was too busy doing other stuff to rent anything lately! Oh well. :)

While it would have been nice to know of the delay as soon as it happened (I didn't find out until two days after), don't forget that your local public libraries may let you borrow free movies as well.
Also, the last time I went to Blockbuster was during their promotion of "trade in Netflix mailing label for free rental". Since I'm the type to keep everything, I ended up with 56 rentals during that promotional period. We also found out that the limit of titles you can have at one time was 36 (at least at that store).

I was almost done watching the majority of Scorcese's work and they do this to me. I'm still waiting on "Bringing Out The Dead".
Its ok though, I love Netflix :)

My queue still doesn't reflect that anything is fixed, sadly. I have one slot that accounts for th movie I still have, and the second slot says "Your next movie is awaiting shipment" with no details (which is what it's said since tues). ANyone else having this issue?
I've been a Netflix customer for 5 years, and even after this minor drama, I still love them.

No problem. Using Netflix for the last 5 years, I've been like a kid in a candy store. I could use the break. Also, I have the Roku box, which is amazing also.

I've been a member for 7 years, like some others (joined May 2001) and this is definitely the worst service interruption in that time, and that's saying something, because this wasn't too bad. It just sucked seeing the Batman: Gotham Knight Blu-ray with "shipping Wednesday" and a notice about some kind of delay at the top of my queue...so I'm hoping it's waiting for me at my UPS Store mailbox when I go Saturday afternoon, since theoretically any delayed discs were sent out Friday at the latest.
I love Netflix with a passion. Very rarely am I this loyal to a service.

FINALLY "Double Agent 73" will arrive. I have to parrot Barion's last line there...I'm not usually brand-loayl, but Netflix has been totally kickass from day one. I had neighbors stealing my rentals from my mailbox and Netflix ALMOST closed my account but I called them and they totally got it. It's like the people who work there really want to do business with you...I like that.

15%...
Seems like if we went a week without movies we should be getting a 25% discount seeing as we're billed in monthly increments and there happens to be 4 weeks in a month.
eh!
