Netflix Ships Some DVDs, Still Not Back To Normal
Posted by Jason Chen at 3:00 AM on August 16, 2008
Netflix's bonered shipping system hasn't magically fixed itself yet, but Reuters reports that they're resuming shipments to the affected customers. The company, which shipped nothing early Thursday morning, wants to get back to normal sometime on Friday, which may or may not be the case. The good news is that they've fixed most of the problems (or so they claim), but if you really need something to watch, their Watch Now streaming is still up. [Reuters via CrunchGear - Image Credit]

Still on hold here in Kansas City. It says my next available disc is awaiting shipment but it's said that since Tuesday.
If they want to give me a few bucks for their trouble I will take it but I have two movies I haven't watched so it's no biggie.

I blame this on the large hardon collider, something tells me a black hole was made cus I also lost gas on the way to work this morning.

my movies still say "shipping wednesday". been like that since they got em tuesday. :-( and the watch now is kind of weak. you can only watch groundhog day so many times.("bill groundhog-day-ghost-bustin-ass murray" name that quote!) i mean, i think ive watched everything worth watching on watch now. i am aware that i have no life, thanks.

Given that Netflix has what I want 999 times out of 1000, they get a lot more slack from me than the local Video Overlord that stocks 1 in 10 titles I'm looking for.
I also haven't sent anything back this week, so there's that too.

Netflix now saying:
"Our Shipping Centers Are Mailing DVDs
Delayed DVD Shipments Are Being Sent Today (Friday)
We're happy to report that all of our shipping centers are resuming normal operations (after 3 days of issues). If you should have been shipped a disc Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, it will ship today (Friday).
We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. To all of you whose shipments have been delayed, we'll be automatically applying a 15% credit to your next billing statement. Or, if you are new to Netflix and your first shipments have been delayed, we recognize that this is not a good way to begin your Netflix membership and we'll automatically extend your free trial by a week.
Again, we apologize for the delay and thank you for your understanding.
The Netflix Team"

@sos10: Yeah, cause companies love NEGATIVE media attention.

@mikieed:
Hrmm, I'm seeing that message too, but the DVD's in my "DVDs at Home" section are still saying "Shipping Wednesday" (which is what they've said since Tuesday). I wonder if they will actually ship out today and arrive tomorrow.

@danger the pirate: Coffee and Cigarettes. There are very few movies I'll watch more than once, but Groundhog day is one of them.
Oh yea, and from what I understand, Netflix has a pretty extraordinary record for accurate shipping otherwise.

Yeah, mine are still saying "shipping wednesday." But given UofITOM's post, I'm hoping that if I check the mail, i'll get a magical surprise!
I'm hurting up to finish the Tudors and to get my Doogie Howser on. I actually ended up using one of those dvd rental kiosks yesterday (H&K Escape from Guantanamo Bay. Hiiiilarious. And got my fix of NPH). Never thought I would, haha. It's pretty convenient, but definitely would be costly for me considering how I use netflix.
Oh wells. PLEASE BE FIXED SOON! I MISS YOU SO MUCH. OH GOD I NEED YOU NOW.
*ahem*

I'm actually quite surprised that this whole Netflix hiccup has become ANY kind of news. I never realized that they had such market penetration that something that, to me, seems so trivial makes news and gets stockholders talking. I just assumed that all big companies experience down-time occasionally; why the need to publicize Netflix?

@danger the pirate: you and me both my friend. you and me both. Here's to hoping for more popular titles when they integrate their player into the xbox 360 fall update. There's so many good not too old movies that should be there. I mean come on, sometimes I just HAVE to have a Harold and Kumar fix when me and the gf are um....'relaxing'.

We have two at home still, but I don't know what's up with our third movie. It's not in the queue, but not in the "at home" section They say they're sending it today. We'll say.
I also notice a giant "Try out the watch it now" banner. There were actually some good suggestions and decent stuff available to watch.

Netflix is just a great service and they have been in the market for 11 years already...so things happens......what the should increase is the amount of movies online...which 90% of them are really old....and specially for those new releases that takes about 3 weeks to be deliver.....
Also more foreign movies will be great
