Motorola Alexander's QWERTY-Free Cousin: The Atila
Posted by Sean Fallon at 4:16 AM on August 12, 2008
It's been about a week since spy shots of the Motorola Alexander surfaced, and it appears that it will be followed by an inbred cousin dubbed "Atila" that was born without a QWERTY keyboard. It will also be the first Motorola device with tri-band UMTS/HSDPA. Other features include: quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, 7.2Mbps HSDPA, 1.8Mbps HSUPA, 2.8″ QVGA 240 x 320 screen, Wi-Fi b/g, a Qualcomm 7201A chipset and Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional. As usual, no release date or pricing has been announced just yet. [BGR]

Oh sweet a black phone with a touchscreen and a chrome bezel.
I feel like I've seen something similar before though...

So Motorola has given up the four-letter words in favor of Great Warlords Conquerors In History?! WTF?!
I guess we can look forward to the Motorola Genghis, the Motorola Hannibal, the Motorola Idi Amin, the Motorola Serpentor, the Motorola Baby Doc Duvalier, the Motorola Pol Pot, the Motorola Ivan, the Motorola Stalin, and the ill-concieved Motorola HTLR.
My only theory is that Motorola is trying to appeal to that burgeoning market of aspiring members of the Legion of Doom.

The phone looks good, but that is not Motorola's problem. They need to veer away from Windows Mobile if they are going to get anywhere. So, unless they develop their own intuitive operating system, this will just be another Windows Mobile phone.

I think it looks decent. But then again I'm also a fan of vista so my opinion doesn't count for too much i guess.

Motorola needs good smartphone if they want to stay at #1 in the United States marketshare.

@3r1c:
Ugly? Why?
Make the corner a bit more suare an you got an iPhone.
Is the iPhone ugly?
I bet that if the iPhone had rounded edges so it fits better in the palm of your hand everyone will praise the design.

@ItsRabid: You're right. Here's the new line of Motorola's Dictator phones:
The ad is in poor taste - it features Charlie Chaplin, dressed as The Great Dictator talking on the phone outside of a theatre playing a Reifenstahl/DW Griffith double bill.

@OMG! Birthday!:
If this phone is referred to by Atila it is the internal project name used by the developers.
When it is released it will get its real name. Thought everyone knew that. Guess not...

WM 6.1 Professional. At least it is a professional device rather then a standard device.
