Make Your Own R/C Hovercraft Out of Old Junk
Posted by Sean Fallon at 8:40 AM on August 19, 2008
My guess is that most of the guys out there would love their own R/C hovercraft, but the bottom line is that not everyone can afford a fancy commercial version. Well, if you have some junk lying around the house, some time on your hands, and you don't mind a hovercraft that is butt friggin' ugly, you can build your own R/C model for under US$50 (depending on what kind of junk you have lying around) and the instructions from Project Hovercraft.

@VirreVojj: Can't. This is purely Zune controlled. Hey, it has to be good for something, right?

So how do I make it so that I can steer it using my iPhone?

Now I want to see who's nutty enough to make one large enough to ride.

@Kaiser-Machead's WALL-E fetish:
It was done on Junkyard Wars... One of them worked pretty good until the skirt got ripped, then the slower one won the race.

Neat. I have enough junk to make one of those. My son had a cheap RC 'copter that lost it's rotor blades in a crash. I kept the all the other bits thinking they might be good for something. This looks like it could be it!

SWEET! I used to have a hovercraft in 1968, but it was corded. Time to find and electronics junk pile...
