Kid Arranges Own Abduction Because Parents Won't Buy A Wii
Posted by Matt Hickey at 1:30 PM on August 2, 2008
This honestly sounds more like the plot of a Cheech and Chong movie than a news story, but apparently it's true. In China, a kid named Yang was so upset that his parents wouldn't buy him a Wii that he got together with a couple of shifty individuals and faked his own kidnapping. They then demand a ransom of about US$1,400 and were caught trying to withdraw it from an ATM. We're assuming Yang would have had enough from his cut of the would-be payoff that he could get his own Wii without his parents help. How he'd explain why the first thing he wanted to do after being rescued was a trip to Best Buy we don't know. [Destructoid]

River City Ransom is certified! I am ryan (cause I like the blue shirt) and my cousin is alex. Mao's is one of the best places to eat. Beating up the twins up in the bridge is one of the fastest ways to build up stacks :) (P.S. ROxy is HOT!!!!!!)

Homer: Larry, there's only one sure way to make him realize how much he loves you. And that is a phony kidnapping.
Larry: Yeah, right. I don't know. Maybe I should just leave town.
Homer: Phooonnny kidnapping...
Larry: Nah... I know what I gotta do. I gotta clean up my act. No more joking around all the time. No more slacking off at work. And most important, no more booze! I know I can do it.
"Your son has been kidnapped."

And now, Yang will have to do with a bullet in the head.
Payed by his parents, of course.

That is one of the worst box arts evar, especially considering the actual, cartoony nature of the RCR characters - the game is excellent, but the packaging just doesn't do it justice.
@mrmerhai: Zeus Wand FTW!
My brother was such a pro at the game - remember the tangled and convoluted passwords? Well, he could actually remember one that got you to a pretty high level, so whenever we'd pop over to a friend's house, he'd read it off.

I hope the kid really gets kidnapped now. Mom and Dad will just think he wants a new toy and not pay ransom while he is forced into slave labor. Justice.

@nyaz: As much as China and Japan may seem exactly the same in your mind they're not. Repeat after me, Japan has Samurais and Ninjas, China has martial arts. Japan has a very strong technological industry with Sony, Nintendo, etc, while China has a very strong knockoff industry. See, exactly the opposite.
