Kensington's Wireless USB Docking Station Is the World's First, Supports Five Devices and DVI Monitor
Posted by Jason Chen at 4:40 AM on August 19, 2008
Kensington's just released the world's first Wireless USB universal docking station, conveniently named the Wireless USB Docking Station. The thing suppports five USB devices as well as a DVI monitor, which can then be "attached" wirelessly to your notebook whenever it comes into range. Speaker ports round out the solution, and the whole thing is compatible with any Wireless USB notebook brands. You'll be able to pay US$230 for one at the end of the month at Dell and Kensington. Is the convenience of not having to plug in five USB devices (or one, if you have a USB hub), a monitor and a speaker every time you sit down worth $230? We say yes. [Kensington]

I'd settle for a Mac driver for this. [www.belkin.com]

@MrBlahBlah: are there? for "wireless" USB connecting? If so great. Kensington only shows a Windows Driver link though.

Apple should so do this. And begone will be the problems with MBP docking.
Of course it will cost twice as much...

Please let them get this right. Many others have tried and fallen short of victory.

Jeez, I can't find ANY "Wireless USB" adapter products on newegg. Every time I search "Wireless USB" I get Wi-Fi and bluetooth USB dongles. I think Wireless USB is going to completely fail due to this confusion alone. The average consumer is just going to buy a USB "Wireless" dongle and think that they can connect to their "USB Wireless" product and just get pissed off when a tech guy tells them they have a Wi-Fi USB dongle rather than a "Wireless USB" attached to their laptop.
The guys behind the USB standard need to come up with a new name/branding campaign to sell to the average consumer. Because "Wireless USB" is too damn generic of a term to come up with useful non-confusing search results.

An Apple version for the MacBook Air would be pretty nifty.

how is this any better/different (aside that you could come out cheaper should you find a disk drive to hook it up too) than an apple time capsule?

Now if it would just wirelessly power/recharge the notebook while its at it, then we'd have something!

Does this mean, I can plug my external HD and get it networked?

takes me less than 30 seconds to hook up my eee to the logitech alto laptop stand.
just saved $230.00 far as i can tell. if i couldn't invest the 30 seconds in hooking it up, well, i guess i am just too busy to live.

This seemed like exactly what I was looking for, at first.
I hook up my 1080p tv to my computer with dvi hdmi. But the cable to the tv has to be drawn kinda weird.
Thought this would be the perfect solution until I saw that the limit to the resolution of the connected monitor was 1680x1050 or 1280x1024.
So close. :(

TetsuBo I'm on board with you. I am currently hooking up my MBPro to my 40" 1080p tv and I lose my mobility because of the fact that I'm wired. I hope we can find some solution soon.
