Does anyone want to buy me a D700?
I'd like to see what Nikon's full frame sensors can do.

Personally, I'm a fan of the Nikon D3. Not because I'm a shutterbug, but because there's nothing like a Williamsburg hipster out taking pictures of architecture with far more camera than s/he needs and proudly showing off his/her toy.
It's the yellow Hummer of DSLRs.
OMG! Ponies!

JD Power is a commercial entity that sells it's services. They pick winners for their abilities to hire their services and push forward their agenda. They"ve done that with cars, computers etc... Giz' reviews are far more reliable!

nikon/canon in the dSLR - check
nikon NOT in the point & shoot - check
that looks right to me. Nikon needs to give up on their non-dSLR line, and just let canon/casio/fuji get those customers.

Oh, bravo. When forced to pick the best of the DSLR market, JDPower nicely summed it up by saying "Canon's EOS series" and "Nikon's D Series". First of all, that not only includes a range of everything from the D60 and Rebel XT to the D3x and the 40D, from a price range of $500 to $5000. Second, naming Nikon and Canon as the best DSLR manufacturer's isn't just mind-numbingly obvious, it's awarded just because they're the sole contenders. That's like if I asked you to tell me who makes the best computers, and you tell me "Well, it's either Windows or Mac". Good work there.

Wow, not sure what happened with that comment. Let's try it again.
Damn, they really nailed that DSLR pick. Who knew the EOS-1D5D40DRebelXS Mark III would be such a great camera?

oh what a HUGE surprise... Canon and Nikon get the top DSLR catergory....
dont they factor in that canon uses SLAVES to make their cameras, mostly in India before assembly in chinese factories??

@shorty6049: Awesome! I like slaves!
In all seriousness, I'm glad the documentary, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, brought to light the plight of Indian slave babies and how he braved his own life to save these children from making more cameras for pennies. And the senseless violent acts like ripping out hearts seems a bit extreme for failed quality control.

@thetickler: I wholeheartedly disagree and shortsighted comments like yours show what kind of an idiot you are.
While some people would say that ripping someone's heart out for applying too much solder, dipping one lineworker into a pit of flame can serve to motivate the rest of the workforce. Imagine if Microsoft had employed that motivational strategy. I'm willing to bet that the X-Clamp problem with the XBOX 360 would have never happened. Political screeds like "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" don't show you the benefits of torture-killing in the workplace.
I think more 12 year-olds should have their hearts ripped out, especially in places like India, Tibet, Algeria, Idaho, and Antarctica.

Although I have and love the TZ5 - JD Powers (like commented before) is a for-sale entity. Any company that rates the Pontiac Aztec as the number one vehicle is SO full of BS their eyes are brown. Giz - stop giving them credit - they're worthless. May as well watch Fox or 700 Club for news...

@OMG! Ponies!: While the Thuggee system of employee motivation is rather controversial, I think we can all agree that their effeciency leaves a lot to be desired. Children do posess an advantage in mining when it comes to working in confined spaces, but lack the strength to operate most of the equipment. And the spaces the were working in were hardly confined -at one point I think the cavern opens up to sixteen lanes wide - thus eliminating any advantage they have.
Also, their security is for shit. One kid is allowed the run of the jobsite and has unfettered access to senior staff. It can't be hard to find that kid, he's the only one in the whole place wearing a Yankee cap.
Yeah, I'm just trying to piggyback onto a joke here.

And also, what's with their just listing the camera series. Of course "Canon EOS Series" wins best camera of 2008. The 1Ds Mark III is part of the "Canon EOS Series" as well as the Nikon D3. This report is about as non-specific as it gets.

I bought the DMC-TZ5K and I am proud that Panasonic could come up with a camera to tie a Canon, it shows how much effort they put into it. Love the camera, no camera should be without a 10x optical zoom.

If you're looking for advice on SLRs in Consumer Reports, I think "EOS or D series" is about as specific as your brain can handle.
I'm a happy Canon shooter with several thousand bucks invested in the system, but I'd say it's not a tie: Nikon is hands-down the best SLR body maker right now. I'll stick with Canon for the foreseeable future, but when I recommend a starter SLR to friends these days, it's usually the Nikon stuff.

Not too shaby if i may say so...
Recently went to Ireland with the Canon G9 and a 16 Meg SDHC card..whew! 600+ images in 10 days, simply amazing performance. Yes, high contrast lighting is difficult but the camera is soooo easy to use, fast and good battery life: approx 1.5 days shooting. Not too bulky, fits in my pocket. The the RAW images are breathtaking..you do need a fast PC or MAC to process, 70+meg TIFF files...wow!

I always thought that Hasselblad was a good camera. If JD Power thinks that a Nikon or a Canon is best then I will save my $32,000 and buy a car or something.

I bought a Nikon D60 and an extra Nikor 12-24mm, wide-angle zoom lens, just recently. The cameras built in stop motion feature just plain rules, and I've been having a great deal of fun with it. The image sensor self-cleaning feature should be a standard for all D-SLR's.
I haven't been this happy with a camera purchase since I bought a pristine Canon AE-1 set, from my dad, back in the early 90's.
