James Bond's Sony Ericsson C902 Cybershot to go Public
Posted by Kit Eaton at 8:10 PM on August 4, 2008
Sometimes the strangest part of writing for Giz is decoding press releases: like this morning's Sony Ericsson one. Did they leave out an image of the upcoming special limited-edition C902 Cybershot James Bond phone to add to the mystery? Is it supposed to be kinda secret, à la Bond himself? Who knows: luckily T3 snagged a picture of the "titanium silver" phone. 007 himself uses it in the movie Quantum of Solace, and you can get your hands on one too. Hardware-wise the phone is unchanged from the 5-megapixel camera original, but will come with 007-themed content, including a "spy-style" game. Quite how this makes sure you're "ready for any challenge" I'm not sure. It's a mystery. As is price and release date. Blimey, Sony Ericsson's really good at this cloak-and-dagger stuff isn't it? I love SE's, but jumpin' Jehosaphat can they be pricey. I'll stick with the slightly cheaper walkmans, but I do like the sound of that 5mp Cybershot. I know megapixels aren't everything, but these actually take good images.

Did T3 write that copy? Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this the famous gadget magazine? While I'm pretty sure the word "addes" doesn't exist, the whole paragraph generally reads like it was written by a 10-year-old.

A really good camera is my #1 priority for my next phone, so I gave the C902 and C905 some real consideration. But a couple things annoyed me:
1. Smartphone prices, but not a smartphone.
2. Memory Stick. Yay for Sony's proprietary hardware fetish.
3. Closed, proprietary OS.
It looks like it's going to be the Samsung Innov8 for me then. I'm surprised Giz hasn't mentioned it.

I've been reading a lot of reviews on the C902 lately, and I've noticed that a bunch of people complain about software and firmware issues (hangups, resets, etc.). The only thing I wish this phone had, though, is WiFi. Save that, it's the perfect upgrade from the K-series.

I truly enjoy SE phones, and I always have. But their community shrinking has hurt them with the other phone followings now.
Back in the day people hacked and packed these things to be some of the most advanced phones on the market even if they weren't smart phones. No so much anymore.
R.I.P Sony Ericsson S710A...I still miss u

it is a great phone but watch out for the fast port I have used one that eats phone adaptors it has broke 5 as the clip get stuck and the whole thing rips to pieces. Get the guy to demo it before you take it .... Samsung sucks cock although they plough millions into my team, buy samsung phone refreshingly different.........

Does it launch little poison darts? Control the security on my car? Tase an unauthorized user? Send encoded pulse transmission to MI-6? No? Then keep it.

Aww I was hoping that Bond would use that new 8.1 mpx slider this time.

I was hoping that the new 007 MI:6 SE phone would be a sleek new computer phone with a larger mpx lens than the 8.1 mp, or better than Samsung's SCH B 600 10 mp camera lens, and have a bad ass hard drive that over 100gigabyts! Plus, security control on a car, and GPS with a biometrics control lock system to enter the phone and all the encryption software applications like in Casino Royale's boat seen in Venice! Plus, maybe have cctv like in the film So CLose with her Nokia 9500. And have awesome large variety of 3-d Games would be incredible, with a T-1 and DSL, and a WIFI connection with a vga lens like SE P 990 for live video conferencing and banking like on the SWISS's banker's attache case with the cryptologic system in Casino Royale!
BUt, only if the next SE Cyber Shot series of phones can be sleek thin computer phones with larger megapixel camera/ camcorder lenses that have a huge optical zoom and a battery that rocks!

I think the 902 was more appropriate for the "sleek" bond style. Anyone who has seen the 905 in action knows how ugly and bulky it really is. Still...no Xperia? That would've been the perfect spy/gadget phone to showcase for a spy movie!
