iPhone 3G Hardware Unlock Uses Your Existing SIM Card…Kinda

12:30PM August 5, 2008 | Adrian Covert

Yeah, USB Fever just started taking pre-orders for this super thin iPhone hardware unlock tool that attaches to your SIM card, but be forewarned — it requires that you cut the corner off your SIM in order to work. If you’re up for the challenge, it will supposedly start shipping on August 20 for US$35. [USB Fever via iPhone Atlas via IntoMobile]

Avoid this product at all cost! Although it does unlock the iPhone 3G, there is a CRITICAL design flaw. The added thickness of the adapter + your Sim Card causes it to get stuck in your Sim Card tray. I’ve now damaged my tray slightly by having to pry it open. Do a quick Google search and you’ll see this is a typical problem for these adapters. Above all, avoid the U.S. reseller mooglex.com — they promise a 15-day money-back guarantee on their website but ignored my emails for a refund.
