HTC Dream Gets the FCC Stamp of Approval
Posted by Matt Buchanan at 11:17 PM on August 18, 2008
For those of you keeping score at home, HTC's Dream, due to hit T-Mobile in October as the first Android phone, just got tapped by the FCC's rubber stamp. Unfortunately there aren't any of those h-o-t product shots that the FCC is usually known for to give us a better look at the device, just a lot of black and white. But it does confirm the Dream moniker, that it's got a jog ball, Wi-Fi and it's running on the 850/1700/1900MHz bands. Very exciting! [FCC via Engadget]

@Rain-man: If it's too nice, T-Mobile might not carry it.

@OMG! Ponies!: I'm sure they'll have their promo stuff soon enough. T-Mobile's gonna do it when they're ready, prob not HTC.

Aren't "leaked" product shots or (perish the thought) official gadget pr0n shots obligatory when trying to ramp up a good buzz about a product?
Call me crazy (no, really SteveDave - call me crazy) but does HTC expect people to plunk down money without a picture of the damned phone?

We'll know everything as soon as info hits the "loosed lipped" cellphone company employee.

there is a question as to if this will ship w/ Exchange support. that's going to be a real deal killer.
if this doesn't have a version of Google Maps with real-time route recalculation, voice prompts for navigation, built in GPS, and Exchange, it ain't worth a damn and I won't budge off of my Glofiish X600 - which already has all that.
the fact that it will have Street View is neat but really, who cares? if I'm driving down the road, I usually just look through the windshield.

They are planing on selling in oct, it would be dumb to ramp up the hype machine now and not in sept when they are currently planing.

@OMG! Ponies!:
I dont think HTC relies on the FCC report to create buzz about their phone...I think google would do that for them..plus google has been showing this phone off for awhile now.

@ajcali08: I'll believe it when there's an ad for it on TV. I seem to recall a big ceremony coming up in about a week on NBC. Perhaps a commercial then would be in order.
It sounds so simple but it's true. Airwave saturation is the most tried-and-true method to hype a gizmo, be it an iPhone or a Chocolate. And to do that, you need a shitton of airtime.

850/1700/1900 ?
What you talkin' 'bout TMO ? They can't be serious, a USA-only banded phone ? Did someone tell them we're now in the 21st century, and despite today's political climate, folks in the US, can and WILL, travel abroad.
They can't expect anyone to take them seriously with this phone if it only has the North American bands supported.
