Firefly Series Comes to Blu-ray November 11
Posted by Jason Chen at 10:00 AM on August 20, 2008
Firefly might have been the best thing Joss Whedon has ever done in our opinion, but it's also one of the shortest things he's ever done. In just 14 episodes, the space western was able to surpass both Buffy and Angel (and all of his smaller creations) in our minds as his work, which is why we cannot wait to get this thing on Blu-ray. If you're rating this box set on an purely dollar-to-hour ratio, the US$90 price tag (US$62 on Amazon) would be absurd. But you know you're going to watch and re-watch this thing many times over, if only for the scenes with Inara and the other companion. We'll be in our bunk. [Amazon]

Good news! I wonder what they've done with the CG shots. I remember reading that a HD release was going to be tough because they'd lost the CG originals or something and only had the standard-def/TV quality recordings.

one of the 3 or 4 best TV shows ever, and probably the one that least deserved it's untimely cancellation. :(
but as sci-fi great Theodore Sturgeon once wrote, "a brieft star burns brightly."

(first post with my new N810 btw)
Probably not the thing to get if you already have it on DVD, but if you DON'T then by all means go for it.
The extras are great and you get the unaired episodes too!

I never saw it while it was on TV and it took forever for a friend of mine to convince me to watch it. Creator of Buffy and Angel... no thanks. But when I finally broke down and watched it, I must admit, it's one of the greatest sci-fi shows I've ever seen. Really good stuff.
Are there any additional features new to the blu-ray edition?

Fine...I will buy this series again. Already own it on DVD, but I have to have this in HD. My purchase would be even sweeter if this includes more special features.
I miss this show as well.

I don't like sci fi shows, movies, sci fi anything, but my lord this show is AMAZING! I might wait until the price comes down a tad before chucking these in my PS3 and sitting back to look at the 1080p wonderfulness.

I watched this on FOX a couple times, but they screwed Joss over from the beginning by airing the episodes out of order... stoopid! Not until I was forced to watch 3 episodes in proper order did I begin realize that it was both brilliant and awesome. I'm glad they were able to wrap it up with a decent movie, even if it differed from the series a bit.
Anyway, I love the show. It's Hi-larious (just like sick people).

Still rewatching it. Definitely one of my favorite TV shows ever. Glad they're releasing it on Blu-Ray. At least that means it's still alive (sort of) to Fox.

@chiablo: The brothel episode was great except for the lame laser-car. Now "Shindig" was a stinker; everyone dressed like they were in Gone With the Wind and Mal got a job because he was lousy at sword fighting.

I did not watch this .. I guess I really can't say series, since nothing completed?
Anyways I did watch it on Xboxlive, and even fancied buying the 14 eps.. Glad I didn't buy them right away on regular dvd.
I wish, they would go ahead and finish this series up.

As we wait to embrace yet another remake or retelling.... Bionic Woman, Knight Rider, 90210, Robinson Crusoe... Or completely stupid shows like a 2 minute commercial creation reality show called Pitchman hosted by Billy Mays.
Writers strike! First they have to be able to write.

@strider_mt2k: You don't know how often my wife and I quote that scene and crack up :x
"Mercy is the mark of a great man."
*stab!* "oof!"

"Eh, I'm alright."
I love this show so much, really a shame it got cancelled :(

would have been more worth the price if it included Serenity. Still, Firefly was a great show killed by Fox's timeslot moves and out-of-sequence showing. Oh well. Family Guy came back, maybe if DVD sales are good they might bring the series back as well /wishful thinking.

"Jayne, the man they call Jayne
He robbed from the rich
And he gave to the poor
Stood up to the man
And gave him what for
Our love for him now
Ain't hard to explain
The hero of Canton
The man they call Jayne "
and one other tidbit....
"I can kill you with my brain...."

@FrankenPC: That's my favorite scene as well!
The funny thing is that I watched Serenity before I ever saw a single episode of Firefly. After watching the series, I went back & re-watched Serenity. Made much more sense! I'm so glad Joss got the chance to wrap everything up and give us at least some degree of closure on things.
