DIY Batman Tumbler Is Nearly Perfect, Built With One Man's Bare Hands
Posted by John Mahoney at 10:20 AM on August 6, 2008

Bob Dullam is a man possessed--by a lot of things, surely, but mainly by the drive to build this absolutely amazing working replica of Batman's current-gen Batmobile, the Tumbler. Our buddies over at Jalopnik have spotted it, and It's got it all--the afterburner, the huge honking double-barrel wheels, the stealth-toothiness on all of the edges--immaculate. Dullam threw it all together with nothing more than commonly available photos and the movies themselves, all custom welded, in his own garage by himself. And if you're assuming he's got a pretty impressive Batsuit to go with it, you're right.

Bob estimates when all is said and done, his labour of love will cost him anywhere from US$50k-US$70k. And even after repeated pleading on the Super Hero Hype forums where he's showing it off, he ain't sellin'. At least not until he needs to liquify some assetts to work on a working Batpod, which he's setting his sights on next. Head to Jalopnik and the boards for more. [SuperHeroHype via Jalopnik]

@newgalactic:
yeah you'd think if you were going to go ahead and put a crotch bulge that pretty much begs to be the center of attention, you'd make it a little more... formidable.

I'm sorry, I couldn't see any car behind the crotch-bulge in the bat suit. Was that put on as an afterthought? It looks like it was attached after initial fabrication. If that's the case, home-boy shouldn't underestimate himself.

Is that thing rusting already? The first pic sorta makes it look that way.
@drmartintsai:
No, no, it's the modern version of the Batnipples from the last wave of movies (and yes, it looks _bad_).
@CarrerCrytharis:
Which, the car or that embarrasing Batsuit? Actually, since most of what I take to our town/train LEGO displays is Batman stuff, this would be pretty cool to drive to those. You know, sans the batsuit. Actually, I'm thinking of getting a custom airbrushed version of this shirt, but substituting my 1st Appearance Batman minifig.
@klew:
Nah, it's for the catheter. I mean, look at that thing. How easy do you really think it'll be to strip that thing off when you're doing the pee-pee dance?

@TaitRT: I thought I was the only one who noticed that. It looks like he took the rear end off some ricemobile and slapped a huge wheel/tire combo over them. Which makes me wonder what kind of powerplant is in that thing. Cuz if it can run at least at highway speeds, it's gotta be making more power than that thing can take. I was expecting at least a 9 inch if not something straight out of a dump truck!
Tumbler vs. Nissan rear axle = AAA phone call.

@GeekyNerdGuy: I think they only mentioned it because there is insulation in a couple of the panels. It looks like either someone started to drywall and didn't finish or they took the drywall off. Considering he has put shelves in the walls, it appears as if he has taken the drywall down to maximize space. I give it a week before Lifehacker has an article about maximizing your garage space by tearing down your drywall and putting shelves in that space.

I can't believe no one has figured this out and posted it: The 'angels' in the rafters are the mold used to make the batsuit. And yes, it was very likely made off of his body, for a 100% pure custom fit. Ever tried on one of those off the rack batsuits? So hard to get a good fit! But you guys are right, he should have left a little more "breathing room" down there!
I hope he has something like the 6.6 litre engine from a 77 Trans Am in there, or that thing will be a total slug.
