Crummy Old Skis Make for Fancy New Media Shelf
Posted by Mark Wilson at 12:15 AM on August 14, 2008
It's rare that we come across a DIY project that we both: a) want to complete and b) feasibly could complete. But this project takes a used pair of wooden cross country skis and through the magic of just two brackets and a few screws, creates a media shelf with some pizazz. Plus, just spit-balling here, you could attach another set of skis inverted below the first set to create a gnarly wave effect. [Five Whys via Curbly]

I own plenty of physical media! I cannot stand watching movies, tv, etc on the computer so I still have tons of DVDs and lots of PS2 & PS3 games.
I think it would look pretty cool to use some more modern skis instead of the wood though. And I like the idea of old skateboards, snowboards etc a lot as well. Definitely gives me some food for thought.

This article should really read... "Crummy Old PC Makes for Fancy New Media Storage". Who the hell owns physical media nowadays?

Thats actually kinda cool, and if you wanted to take it even past this, an old skate board, water ski or anything like that would work as well. Not only is it a fun theme, it resuses what might otherwise end up in a land fill.

Until delivery methods equal the quality of physical media, and backup/archiving becomes as easy as shelving, my CDs will be prominently displayed in my living room. Physical media FTW

Do you mean to tell me that if I take a flat piece of laminated wood or other solid substances and mount it horizontally from my wall I can then place objects on it?
GADZOOKS!!
Yeah, ok, it's pretty nice looking but, seriously, unless they are really jacked up skis you can usually sell them at a 2nd hand sporting goods store and buy better shelves with the money.

Perfect for the cabin. Also, a pair of old ski poles would make a great CD rack.

Wow, now I can wear some flare at home and feel like I am at TGI Fridays or Claim Jumpers.

I like the idea. A little cheeseball but it works. I guess I'll have to give up my cross country skiing from the '70s for my entertainment rack. [jaychick.com]
