CDMA HTC Touch Diamond Has Release Date, Price, Fatness-Highlighting Red Rear
Posted by Kit Eaton at 12:11 AM on August 27, 2008
We suggested the CDMA version of the Touch Diamond had eaten all the pies last week: Now word is out on its release and Sprint and HTC have chosen not to disguise it. Oh no... they've dolled that large rear-end up in a striking red colour. Bizarre, though I guess its in the "if you can't hide it, make a feature of it" school of thinking. We can at least partly forgive its 13.9mm depth, though, which is due to a 1350mAh battery. It's due out August 28th on Sprint, costing US$549 for the bare phone, and US$299 on a two-year contract. sprint manager showed me an email dated today (8.28.08) stating the diamond will be available on Sept. 14 but only through customer care. Stores should recieve the phones 2 weeks later.

Sprint? Does anyone know when Alltel is going to get some cool new phones?

I picked up a Touch Diamond last week (Telus Mobility - CDMA) and I like it.
Granted though, this is my first smartphone (coming from a 3+ year old LG flip), and my first experience with Windows Mobile, so I might not know about other products (I've played around with an Iphone a couple of times).
I think I need to get it tweaked some, as the interface is a bit on the slow side sometimes (but could just be me). There's some tweaks here: [www.tracyandmatt.co.uk]

I'm also very, very interested in seeing a first ever mobile that has a VGA screen. I wonder how nice web pages will appear. Also, I can't wait to install Mobile Divx and watch an anime (Bleach seems to hold my interest at the moment) or other movie... or perhaps give it to my kids to watch during a car ride after I ripped a movie to an divx file & play it.
Of course I don't know if I could get away from not having a keyboard. I do so much typing I don't know if I can live without that feature.

Well, Sprint did release the Motorola Q9c with a fudgetastically humongous battery, so it doesn't surprise me that they altered the spec from 900mah (or was it 1100mah) to this larger version. I bet internal or external studies showed that a huge part of customer satisfaction indicated battery life experience was a big ole chunk, or moreso than a mm or two of thickness would deter.
Hopefully the sluggishness with the UI is fixed. I also wonder if the qualcomm chipset has the dualcore proc that the 7500a should have. This would be interesting. Of course the proof is in the pudding, so hands on will negate what technical stats it seems to have.

@stinkyboy: Supposedly it will be renamed the Fuze and coming to AT&T soon:

So, are we ever going to see the full Giz Touch Diamond review that was mentioned an age ago? I'm thinking about picking one up and would appreciate a good review. So few reviewers seem to actually use the product and the reviews are all blah, blah, specs, marketing copy, specs.

So the HTC Vogue was wonderfully small and thin at 0.55 inches thick, but the HTC Touch Diamond is a huge fatty at the same 0.55 inches thick, all because it's a few millimeters thicker than the GSM version of the Diamond? Hmmm...

2.65mm
0.10 of an inch
That's the fuss Kim has been making in TWO posts now... 2.65mm (14mm CDMA vs 11.35mm GSM). The differenace is even less when comparing the iPhone at 12.3mm.
Really Kim? It is -that- big of a deal? I guess Nicole Richie and Mary Kate Olsen are some big fattys too huh?
I guess if that's the big negative on the CDMA Diamond, it must be a great phone. I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I'll take a 67% increase in battery size for a tenth of an inch anyday.

that's some bullshit! Sprint always does this to me. Convinced me to buy the instinct, then they come out with at way better phone like 4 months later and I bet they just ignore all the problems the instinct has. I'm just hoping that in about 6 months, they get the badly need update and some great apps, otherwise the instinct will be a complete bust. Usually samsung products are of good quality, however they dropped the ball on the instinct...

@AllThingsWireless: It also probably has a bigger battery to make it a good replacement for the older HTC phones. I mean with a bigger battery you get more function out of your phone on one charge and you get to use that lovely sprint EV-DO for longer.

Add QCHAT and I'll dump my AT&T contract.

I could be "opening my foot, and inserting mouth" in 2 days, but I'm supposed to get one pre launch for a corporate sprint store, and all signs point to DELAYED.

I'm not sure if I want the Diamond or the Touch Pro. The Touch Pro is a complete iPhone killer, the Diamond has that 4 GB of storage that keeps it from being a total iPhone killer.
I have no idea why most people are complaining about the Touch Diamond/Pro not having a 3.5mm headphone jack... Stereo bluetooth just rocks!

I want one but I want a true legit review from someone who speaks my language... not just rambling specs off. I plan to upgrade after the 2nd. I also think it's weird that I can get my upgrade from sprint on Sept 2nd and there are several phones set to release that same day. I can't wait to play with this phone.
And one more thing, I want an iPhone so bad but I refuse to be another mindless sheep following the herd. My dad and most of my friends ALL have iPhones. They all got the 1st gen... then they all got the 3g. Sheep I say.
