Casio PCP-1200 Photo Printer Has 7-Inch Touchscreen, Keyboard for Some Reason
Posted by Kit Eaton at 8:52 PM on August 19, 2008
This new photo-printer from Casio is one mixed-up gizmo: As well as standard photo-printing functions, it's got a 7-inch touchscreen and a full keyboard. So is it a mini computer with printer aspirations, or a printer with computing aspirations? Hard to say, but it's supposedly able to edit the photos you pop in from a memory card or mobile phone, and produce custom greetings cards, calendars and the like. And it comes with hundreds of built-in stamps and illustrations. You'd better be seriously into DIY greetings though: the PCP-1200 costs a whacking US$500 in Japan. [Far East Gizmos]

Look! The word processor of the 70's is back! I'd like to see this hacked with a 16 GB CompactFlash card... And maybe someone can build a neater case for it?

It looks as if the silver part on top can be detached, then you take that with you. The printer/keyboard is more of a docking station.

@oneclick: Sounds interesting, but I can't make this out from the pictures or the infosheet. On the other hand, I don't read japanese very well... Seems to have a carrying handle, though. Casio seems to push the handwriting ability, which is logical, given that they've had products in that niche before.

@oneclick: I'm trying to figure out what you'd do with that. Is it a touch-capable photoframe? That's all I can see that piece being.
As for the whole gizmo, it's definitely going to give Broderbund a run for their money.

@ryanobo66: No, the question is "can it be upgraded from Vista to XP?"

They need a Steve Jobs type character to scream "ONE BUTTON!!" at them until they give in.
