Somehow reminds me of Timo Tolkki's (guitarist of Stratovarius) latest solo album... The master record "got stolen" and some clips leaked. You know, you steal a whole album's master and put out only some crappy clips?

Well, to compensate this unfortunate event, Timo published his own clips which however turned out to be exactly the same clips. All this caused quite a lot of conversation here in Nokia land. He's such a dumb-ass, not to even mention the fact that the album was horrible piece of that smelly brown thing.

I think it is so obvious that the band is doing this as a publicity stunt for the upcoming album no one knew about. What are the odds that a fan passing by just happens to make recordings of 4 songs start to finish.

Following a tradition of U2's leaks to make "The News" about their new album:

2000-Following the comparatively poor reception of their previous album Pop, U2 declared on a number of occasions that they were "re-applying for the job ... of best band in the world."Promotional activities included a number of U2 firsts such as appearances on MTV's Total Request Live, USA Network's Farm Club, and Saturday Night Live. The band kicked off the release of the album by performing a short concert for about 600 people at the ManRay club in Paris, France, on October 19, 2000, as part of the promotion for the October 30th release of the album.

2004-A demo version of the album "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb"(The Edge's copy) was stolen while the band were having their photo taken for a magazine in France in July 2004. It contained unfinished versions of several songs that made it onto the album.[2] The band publicly announced that if those tracks were leaked online, they would release the album immediately. Several months later, tracks from the album were released online, but they were the finished products, and not the rough demos from The Edge's stolen CD.

2008-A random guy passing by some house in France listens to his neighbor's blasting stereo, recognizes Bono's charismatic voice, and realizes those are unreleased tracks (of course, everyone in the world knows every frekkin song the play and their variations) probably from U2's new Album "No Line In the Horizon" coming in October! luckily he tapes them and even catches their first single "Sexy Boots" that will start playing in radio stations around the world in the following weeks, yet we can hear them even before the industry insiders!

I really like a ton of U2 songs but, Bono is a joke and the band is turning into a cash cow, whatever is needed to keep making the cash flows, he already said:

"We're gonna continue to be a band, but maybe the rock will have to go; maybe the rock has to get a lot harder. But whatever it is, it's not gonna stay where it is..."

That's explains why they were meeting with the Black Eyed peas... they are turning into Madonna!

@Jkuhn: Uh no, Achtung Baby is a rock classic and Zooropa is an oddball masterpiece (winning a grammy for best alternative record, deservedly, over the grunge heroes of the era). In contrast Rattle and Hum was annoying and redundant and October is their most underdeveloped LP to date.

But agreed, this "leak" sounds like the genius marketing of Paul McGuinness. U2 has remained on top of the charts and always in the forefront of pop music because of the man.

U2 seem to hold the record for the most number of leaked albums. I still have the CD bootlegs of the leaked Achtung Baby out takes from Berlin. Did any of their albums released after 1983 not get leaked?
