Best Buy Vending Machine Haunts Dallas/Forth Worth Airport
Posted by Jason Chen at 8:30 AM on August 1, 2008
Forgetting to bring your electronics with you on a flight sucks really, really hard. This is why the DFW airport has allowed Best Buy to put Best Buy Express vending machines inside several terminals, giving travellers a chance to pick up the lost gadgets, chargers or headphones that they would otherwise have to do without. Is it a good deal? Probably not. But think of it as the electronics equivalent of having to buy a pack of Corn Nuts and going to town because you missed lunch. [Dallas News]

Too bad nothing in the world can fix that F'ed up airport. That place blows more than just air and jet fuel.

Why? Why god why? Why! Damn you! Damn you all to hell! You put a Best Buy in a box!
But will this thing tell you how much of a bad decision you are making when you decide to not purchase the (strike)extended warranty(/strike)performance service plan?

Great another useless machine for the airport. I wonder if they would place it next to the Apple one, or next to the CD/DVD vending machine.

Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport has vending machines like that, only by Motorola and other companies. You can actually by a brand-new cellphone from a machine in Terminal C.

I'll be connecting flights through DFW on the 23rd, so I'll have to seek it out and put some sort of malicious sticker on it. Perhaps a "Now Slower With More Bugs!" sticker would suffice.

...and they charge ungodly amounts for DVDs. Beate Uhse is the sex shop in Frankfurt FRA. €49 for "Sensational Janine". That came out in, what, 1972? Only people who buy in there are folks wearing dishdashas going back to places where you CAN'T buy porn.
@Carmen Sucks:
If the Yab Yum club had their way, AMS woulda had a very different type of 'blowing' goin' on.
@Con Seannery: No, they're the same. Just BB branded now. They've got 'em at IAH as well. Will shoot photos, I'm flying through in about 4 hours.

I believe that the prices are going to be comparable to those in the stores. I think that this is a great idea. I noticed that you can even purchase a Nintendo DS and a couple of games, as well as a well rounded selection of iPods and headphones. I have a feeling that this is going to be a successful venture, which is good for everyone. Gadgets on demand, sign me up.

Minneapolis airport has had unbranded electronic vending machines for at least 2 years. Prices are typically MSRP. So an iPod will cost you the same as pretty much anywhere. I don't remember if the machine charges sales tax. While it might be good for a high-end accessory, most of the things won't help you much until you reach your destination.

@bobx3: I agree. The last time I was flying, I forgot my cell phone charger (actually, it was a new cell phone, and I didn't know until the third day of my trip that the phone with a USB jack won't actually charge from my computer's USB port (who knew?) So I picked up a travel charger at one of these kiosks. I also grabbed a pair of noise-canceling headphones - iPod earbuds can be painful at the volume necessary to compete with jet engines!
They're a great idea for the kind of stuff that's in them: chargers, PMP's, (although, what use is an iPod when you don't have a computer around to load stuff in to it?), pre-paid cell phones, and the like. The prices weren't over-inflated; they were pretty much MSRP. In fact, the gift shop nearby was selling headphones for more than the kiosk was charging.
