Apple Issues Software Update for MacBook Air, Fixes Video Playback and Processor Idling Issues
Posted by Adrian Covert at 9:15 AM on August 24, 2008
TUAW reports that Apple released a software update for its MacBook Air last night, which is said to fix issues with video playback and processor idling. But more importantly, Apple warned against running apps that modify processor performance (TUAW lists CoolBook), as the update does not support them. The software update and accompanying documentation can be found here and here. [TUAW]

i'm still not sure what this does. my MBA is hot and loud. ok, i'll admit, that sounds way awesome when i read it to myself, but it's my computer not a my woman. so it's decidedly less awesome.

@ZetaCrossfire: Looks like you've been doing your daily Windows update, otherwise you wouldn't be able to use your computer.

@ZetaCrossfire: I dual boot on my MacBook and goddamn, I forgot how annoying Javascript updater and Windows Updater can be.
And the MBA needed a video playback update?
Why does Apple always roll out these itty bitty updates for the masses when like something like 1-2% of the Mac population are suffering these issues? Their minor security tweaks lately seem to fuck up my my OS X more than help it like breaking my Air Port and slowing things down..fucking up the magnification on the dock, forcing me to restart more and more.
A fresh restore fixed all these issues and then not updating to the latest security fixes keeps my Mac running clean and smooth.

@Derek Devine: The reason there is always an update is because Apple has always been relentless in its pursuit of perfection no matter how little it is :)

honestly i've been a windows user all my life till now(have an imac) but still keep my windows laptop, but point is i thought ur comment was stupid. I mean seriously even if it just does work making improvements and streamlining is desirable or all of technology would suffer from staggered growth with that thinking.

Sounds like this update throttles down the processor before it gets too hot? Sounds like you''ll be getting a lot less than the 1.6ghz or 1.8ghz as advertised.
Looks like bad engineering to me.

With ya there. Looks like things like "market share" poses very, very familiar problems for the little OS that could. Rather pathetic considering the limited hardware configurations.

That's cool, I can't wait until they make a tablet lcd touch screen mac air; that can burn and play blueray discs and dvd's, and cd's. Plus, add a web cam into the frame, and a really huge hard drive too!
