3-Channel Black Stealth R/C Chopper For US$30
Posted by Sean Fallon at 9:30 AM on August 28, 2008
The guys at Think Geek are bringing R/C junkies one of the cheapest 3-channel mini choppers on the market with the new "Black Stealth." Unlike dinky 2-channel versions, the Black Stealth can handle forward flight with ease—or so they claim. In fact, Think Geek goes so far as to say that it is the easiest to fly small copter they have ever used. I would be kind of skeptical with a price tag of only US$30, but the video below does a good job of showing off its capabilities.

Battery for these things usually last around 20 minutes max. Although more would be nice, 20 minutes should be plenty of flight time if you think about it.

20 Minutes? I have one of those Air Hogs... maybe the motor is much different, but mine only lasts about 5 minutes per charge.

@Dudemeister on the Run: just imagine, flying this thing through the dorm, or ur frat house. maybe get a neerdy friend to put a small camera on there, and take it in the girls bathroom, or spy on someone else in you dorm, through the windows, there are so many ideas that you could use this, in college, and maybe if you had extra dough, take in into your lecture with you, and have some fun. lol.

No cyclic. Instead it looks like the tail rotor control attitude. Pretty sweet design to simplify things.

Coming to think of it, I can use the heli-cam during swimming to check out ladies across the door in the dressing room.

@d4rlp3nc1l: The tail rotor controls pitch. The altitude is controlled by the speed of the rotor rather than a cyclic control. The tail rotor spins one way or the other to tip the main rotor forward or backward for travel in that direction. Left and right is controlled via varying the speed of the overhead rotor so as to offset the torque and spin it.

That is about the coolest mini chopper I have seen. One of my kids had the older style that is impossible to fly steadily, it wasn't much fun. Did anyone notice the tail rotor was up and down instead of side to side like normal copters? I wonder if that's what makes it so maneuverable?

I knew it wasn't likely to have made it into the video, but I can't have been alone in hoping that there'd be a shot of that thing bumping into a wall or something and shooting off in some odd direction.

Well, the big question is if you could stealth it inside a phallus and fly it during the political conventions. Will it Dong, so to speak?

This is just a variation of the Micro Mosquito.
[gizmodo.com]
It just has the addition of rotor stabilisers and looks like a copter rather than a bug.

they have 3 channel foam one also.
it's the same as the two channels, it looks like, except there's an electromagnet in the body to make the blades spin faster. the foam ones are more of a challenge to fly.
