US$200 Xbox 360 Getting Motion Control for Christmas?
Posted by Mark Wilson at 5:45 AM on August 23, 2008
It's a rumour, but it sure is a juicy one. According to an Xbox360Fanboy source close to Microsoft PR, the US$200 Xbox 360 Arcade (the SKU with no hard drive) will be sold in a bundle with a motion controller and a few motiony games during the coming holiday season. The possibility is certainly not all that crazy, as we've seen plenty of evidence supporting the Xbox 360 "Newton" motion controller, and everyone wants a piece of the Wii's big, hungry fanbase. Our guess is that if this rumour pans out we'll hear more around the Tokyo Game Show in October. [Xbox360Fanboy]

I kind of hope this comes out and pressures sony to up their ps eye support. If the freakin eyetoy can do 1:1 sword fighting game the ps eye should be able to do it better.

If it's 1:1 on the motion, which I assume it will be (since the Wii finally just got it), it could be pretty cool. There are a few games I wouldn't mind playing on the Wii with the motion dealy, like sports games and stuff like that. Hope this pans out to something worthwhile.

"Lucas Arts dying development" That should be DURING Development...

I hope it is acurate enough for a 1:1 lightsaber game. Nintendo could of had one with Force Unleashed but opted to keep their add-on that would make it possible a secret from Lucas Arts dying development. Pity....

The Arcade has a wireless controller. The only SKU that had a wired controller was the Core, which was replaced by the Arcade.

@Sockatume: They are thinking that the Wii has the motion/casula gaming market on lockdown and are trying to break of a piece of it. Why wouldn't they?

Between this and the 360-Miis, I'm absolutely shocked. I never thought I'd see MS try to sell on the back of brand confusion. It's probably not going to fly with gamers, because nobody's going to touch an Arcade with a barge pole, and I'm not sure that Mrs. Smith who's trying to get a copy of Wii Fit will be fooled either. What are they thinking?

Bull! Why would MS debut new hardware on their crappiest bundle?

@Mr.SithNinja: Sure, there's just something about this which seems terribly cynical. Maybe it's because I can imagine a lot of disappointed kids on Christmas morning when they discover they don't actually have a Wii.

Only reason I have an Arcade is that is all that was left x-mas exe last year. At least I got 10% off by opening a Target CC......

@Sockatume: Well there will be plenty of those disapointed kids anyway because Nintendo has already said that there will be a Wii "shortage" again this year. "Shortage" meaning an intentional under-shipment because the US dollar is still in the crapper and they would rather sell the units elsewhere and not lose money on the exchange rate.

@Sockatume: And then eventually being estatic that they got a real game console instead of a one trick pony!

For those of you that say Microsoft is copying Nintendo...think again. Microsoft had a motion controller back in early 1998 with the Microsoft Sidewinder Freestyle Pro controller for the PC.
Original press release from May, 1998:
Current dead Amazon page for the Sidewinder Freestyle Pro:
So Microsoft would be copying Sony who copied Nintendo who copied Microsoft. Microsoft's Sidewinder Freestyle Pro was well ahead of its time.

@waterdrop: and it failed miserably for which MS said "we've made a motion controlled and don't see Nintendo having much success with motion...."
Fast forward to 2008...MS: "we lieks teh motiony waggle cause it b the uber"
Hey Nintendo was the first company to introduce a lot of technology successfully to the mainstream but that doesn't stop MS fans from swearing the 360 controller is the best ever made even with the shitacular d-pad, where's Nintendo's kudos? I guess the keyword is successful. SFP wasn't.
Hence, MS is totally biting off of Wii that is of course, if the rumors are true. MS...gotta love their desire to be market leader even if they are always reactive instead of proactive.

This is a rumor that won't go away, and although I'm glad that I could get this without having to buy a Wii (which I don't want) I think it will cause a lot of problem for this brand. They will immediately be criticized for copying Nintendo, and the whole thing just seems weak.

I really just don't think it's going to happen this year. I truly think all this newton nonsense is for a brand new console. To introduce something like this so late in the console's life cycle is a huge gamble.

Or maybe the XBOX 360 ZUNE phone can also be the motion sensor remote control like above! That would be even cooler!

Now Xbox needs to have their motion sensors work with that Roomba, and so it can also have a bluetooth speaker/ boombox sound system added to it, and strobe lights and disco lights, so that you can surf to the anthem! And add a Pico holographic 3-d laser video projector to it also! And add a disc drive with a ssd hard drive, so that it could play and record/ burn blueray discs, dvd's, cd's, or xbox with it's remote controller or with the XBOX 360 Zune computer phone/ and PC games with the Roomba that has a PICO projector, and maybe add a kaoreoke machine and a UMPC with 3-d graphix enabled and include a docking station on top of the ROOMBA, so that they can all charge together too! And voice recognition software applications(ie- Sync by Microsoft), and a loud speaker for your phone line and bluetooth/wifi/ and what other perks are needed too! That would be alot of fun!

Mock Nintendo all you want, here we go again, a great idea by Nintendo and it is copied by another company. You would think Nintendo knows something that others dont. Sony..shove it with your joystick bullshit.

This might not be a bad idea, maybe Nintendo will pay attention and ship more Wii's to the US like they should have along time ago. Also I have a 360 and Viva Pinata would be cool with motion controls.

Hey, I am a hardcore gamer that is happy to have a Xbox 360. But I was gonna get a Wii for my 3 and 5 year old children for Christmas. But if MS does make this controller I will be happy to not have to waste my money on a Wii "gaming system." I have wanted MS to make more child oriented and easy games, or ever XBLA games. Maybe if this controller does come out and if they actually make some very simple children games, then MS may be able to bring in a real gaming system and multi functional device to the average household. I mean how great would it be to make a game system that both small children, and their parents could find something interesting to play? Wii is good for what it is...a party system, a child system, and a good prop at the local nursing home. But this is an opportunity to bring more technology into more households.
