X-Games Branded iPod Skateboard Speakers Are Extreme to the Max Shelving
Posted by Jack Loftus at 3:00 AM on July 28, 2008
I ripped a sick backside fakie 360 ollie and shotgunned a Mountain Dew when I saw this US$179 X-Games skateboard shelf and iPod stereo today. Then I cranked some All American Rejects just for good measure and sighed heavily. The sounds of pure emo moods spewed forth from the player's two 5" speakers, and I quickly fired off an abbreviated text message to my friend sitting on the couch next to me about how much I hated my parents and materialism. My vial of midnight black hair dye vibrated with barely contained malice for our consumer society on the skateboard shelf above. It was just another Sunday. [PB Teen via 7 Gadgets]

what the hell has a skateboard got to do with emos??? I just cant stand all this 'extreme to the max' style marketing to 'cool youth' it feels like a 50 year old struggling marketing executive has randomely cut and pasted certain key words he associates with young people into an advertisement thats probably gonna have the opposite effect. Seriously if you want to market a product to a cool kid, ask one to help you not fuck it up like this.. or you may as well be speaking japanese to them.

Looks like something your mum would buy for you... the kind of thing youd probably get bashed over. Extreme to the max!! man who the hell talks like that?? (*cut and past words from youth cool file 2008*) I hope the 50 year old they left in charge of the marketing for this one gets fired. cant stand that s#it!

@dingus: Pfft. I quote the magnificent Clone High, and you quote the mediocretastic Penny Arcade?
+ Watch video
watch the very beginning, then watch at about 2:05 for the amazing XTREME commercial.

Wow.. that's... wow. As a skater I can only say that nothing is more painful to experience than a non-skater trying to impersonate one. Even in sarcastic jest it still makes baby Jesus crap his toga.
That said any person that actually talks like that wouldn't be a skater, they'd be one of those little wanna-be's that you see carrying their skate instead of actually riding it.

This article is totally fake, you can tell by the following facts:
1. He knows big words
2. He knows how to spell big words
3. He used big words properly
Nice try!

Despite the styling, I like the idea. A speaker system that I can use as a shelf instead of it just taking up my whole night table? Yes please.

I actually thought this would make a wild skateboard. Riding on the street with your music playing out of your board? better than a damn shelf. Let's see those fruit booter's beat that?

*cough* weight is an issue plus NASH already had skateboard radios in the late 80s *cough*
@SimianJones:
i've also found that no amount of acting coaches, social immersion or determination can result in an uncanny impersonation of a skater. its the same with hackers - if you've met a bunch of hackers, you know that they are nothing at all like the hackers on TV.

Hmm, from what I can see decks range anywhere from $59-$90. I wonder how much the parts of this cost, in case you want to make one yourself?
