Win One Of Two Nokia N78 SmartPhones on Giz AU
Posted by Nick Broughall at 1:19 PM on July 7, 2008
Let's face it: Nokia release so many phones that sometimes you just get overwhelmed by the sheer weight of new models hitting the market. And as the tech elite, many of the lower-end phones that they sell to people like your Nanna just don't interest you.
But when Nokia do a high-end phone well, they do it really well. Like the N78, for example. This piece of black art doesn't feature a whole heap of buttons, instead opting for a touch-sensitive surface with raised ridges to give you some feedback. And depending on which function you're using, the keys will change, making it easy to take photos, listen to music and use the phone. At least in theory - we've got one sitting at our desk that we're about to crack open to review.
At the same time that we're excited by the potential of this phone, you should be excited by the potential of winning one. You see, the guys at Nokia have generously given us two of these gorgeous handsets to giveaway to Giz readers.
We're going to give one away each week for the next two weeks. If you want one, you'll need to tell us in 25 words or less: "Which feature of the new Nokia N78 do you think is the best and why?" Pop your entries in the comments section below.
If you need some guidance, check out this post for ideas. While you're busy pondering the best use of 25 words to win (I'll give you a hint - I like to be entertained), I'll be playing around with an N78 here to give you a full review in the coming week or so.
So what are you waiting for?

With progammable keys, hopefully you can keep them blank as a security feature against technophobic criminals/parents.

Posted July 7, 2008 3:27 PM
Mini Optimus Maximus style keypad is easily the best feature - N78 does away with redundant keys and remaps on the fly. N78 is so fly.

The N78's Wi-Fi and A-GPS allow me to escape the receding gravitational pull of the pre-tide iPhone tsunami of chic style and hype

As a ninja, I find the N78 so sleek, dark and mysterious that I actually use them for shuriken now. Victim’s verdict? Best. Death. Ever.

I like the feature that lets you talk dumbasses! sure, i want a phone that lets me take upskirt snaps, listen to death metal, download pron on the train to work using my sexah macbook, let me know where the fuck i am when obnoxiously drunk, oh and make me look suave with a touch-screen! but seriously.. a phone if for phone calls, yes? that's what i want a phone for!

Without a doubt the best feature is the auto geotagging, now one can strap the phone to a kite/balloon/pet cat and reap the benefits.

The A-GPS, because it can keep track of where the expensive cars park, so i can always park my old bomb next to them really close ;) :P

FM Transmitter! An inaccessible radio starts playing some chipmunk-pop-rubbish song; now you can at least interrupt it enough to force others to change it!

My favorite feature would have to be wi-fi, it will allow me to access my emails at work or at home, it will also allow me to get my fix of Gizmodo.

Automatic Geotagging cause sometimes you just can't remember [where you were]/[what you did] last night. 3.2MP camera for [Who you were] with that night.

GPS assisted by WLAN and HSPDA 3G connectivity help us to find where we are and where we goes. The Greatest feature over all.

Posted July 7, 2008 7:15 PM
The 3.2 megapixel camera is the best feature. I can now zoom in on things to make them look bigger, and get away with it.

the fact that there are no actual buttons yet there is actual feedback means less hardware issues, ive had 2 phones broken bybutton issues

Definately the Battery Cover.
Imagine if you will, a grimy downtown bar with a couple of mob fellas - a scene not dissimilar to that found in Goodfellas.
Johnny the Ass: You disrespecting me squeeler? That's it, boys give me your phone's battery cover, im'a shove it down this guys throat so it comes out his ass.
Jimmy the Lips: Ahhh..sorry boss, i just got an iPhone, it's battery cover is nothing.
Freddy the Star: I'll cover this, my Nokia N78 got a battery cover as big as mamma's pasta dish. It'll slot in real nice in his intestines.
The N78 - comes out trumps

A-GPS, so I can geotag a 3.2MP photo of me smiling, momentarily after browsing gizmodo via 3G! It will also make my wife jealous!

Posted July 7, 2008 8:34 PM
I think the thing i most appreciate is the rounded edges. Now, i'm the maitre d' at one of Russell Crowe's most frequented restaurants, and the phone throwing sometimes gets a bit out of hand - he used to have a RAZR but has now moved on to the N78 - this phone is a GOD SEND. Moto's gonna get even more screwed thanks to this one.

Using WLAN to access Gizmodo to win more competitions.
It's like the entire "1-in-3 wins a mars bar", but you just keep getting winning packets... so you get like four free in a row. Should I win this competition, I plan on using it to enter more Gizmodo competitions, and win them too. Please make your next competition something that can access the Internet :(

The browser. After browsing at HSPDA speeds, the Australian data costs will feel like I've been shagged from behind. Best action I'll get all year.

Ever lost something REALLY valuable, say your clothes/friend/girlfriend ect.? Well now those incredibly annoying photos you take can help you find them again.
In my opinion auto-geotagging/A-GPS is the best feature of this phone, helping you remember all that stuff you forgot =D

The touch surface.... because it is one of the most effective way of getting an input to a mobile phone (without a touch screen ... where you will smudge the surface).
You get the screen for pure orsm pleasure

Let me tell you a little story about my friends pet beaver - it ran away. Now that A-GPS can also be used to track a phone's location, simply insert the N78 into pet beaver (switch the phone to vibrate or else the ringtone may shock said beaver) and you'll never lose beaver again! N78 is universally applicable.
