Wiimote-Controlled Canoe Adds Nerdiness, Removes Physical Effort
Posted by Adam Frucci at 1:00 AM on July 29, 2008
Ah, the great outdoors. Nothing says summer like heading out in your canoe. Especially if said canoe has been modified with a small electric motor that's controllable via a Wiimote. That's right, nerds: now you can use your mad Wii skills to help you avoid the horrible exertion that comes from paddling. Unfortunately, it's just a steering mechanism. What would really be something would be if you had to "paddle" with the Wiimote while steering with the Nunchuk. If you're going to do something this ridiculous, you might as well go all out. Hmmmm. Would it be any easier to control after a six-pack of beer and a few hours of fishing?

Dude,
Bring an oar to row, just in case you drop your Wii....

@junyo: It's not about any kind of advantage. It's about operating a canoe with a freakin wii-mote. Pretty cool.

There's some serious ingenuity out there, no doubt about it. But, what in the world are we using it on? Use your muscles if you got 'em. Walk, ride your bike, PADDLE your canoe; all can even be powered by hamburgers.

Look at the side of the canoe @ 1:59 I think it's powered by SATAN!

Unless you ran the Wiimote to the front of the boat, and drove from the bow, not really seeing what advantage this gives you over a regular trolling motor/tiller setup. But tres cool nonetheless.

What if you drop the wiimote in the water.... do you crash into a yacht? or can you still manually steer?

Ha! And instead of a wiimote, he'll use a regular rod to go fishing! Haha!
No wait...
