Two-Foot-Tall Motorised Lego Windmill Set
Posted by Adam Frucci at 7:20 AM on July 16, 2008
If you're a fan of both Lego and renewable energy, you're gonna love the new Vestas Windmill set from Lego. It stands at over two feet tall, has a motor that rotates the windmill around on its own, and is pretty awesome looking. Unfortunately, there's no way to rig a bunch of these together in your yard to help power your house, and they'll actually suck up energy rather than create it like real windmills, but what are you complaining about? It's a two-foot-tall Lego windmill! It's awesome! [Brothers Brick]

OMG! The best part is I would take my fan and aim it at the wind turbine, so I could generate Lego Electricity from real electricity!

This is much more interesting than the lego solar panel set.

@mac_tanaguchi:
The motors power the blades which move the air which cause wind which feeds the wind turbines... Simple!

Why do I want this so badly? I know that the subject matter is not that stupendous, yet I still want it!
Also, it needs a few Lego birds belly up on the ground.

Sorry people its a Vestas only set made for the company and will not be available for public release.
See here:[www.eurobricks.com]
Yes. I'm *crying*. I say we sign a petition and get this set built! Or at least publish instructions! Very nice that LEGO made this set and may consider making something similar for the public! Otherwise, how do I bribe a Vestas employee? Otherwise I will be dreaming of my *official* LEGO Taj Mahal that is going to be released oh and the new Death Star!

@LindsayJoy's MBP is into S+M: Well, if you fail at "bribing" a Vestas employee, I might take a crack at it. Perhaps he prefers my AC to your DC.

Guess I need to talk to my contacts at Vestas. It may help that I ordered and used about $135 million of their turbines two years ago...

Only if you get the S@H-exclusive 9v-to-Power Functions converter cable. Otherwise, you won't be able to connect the solar panel to the motor.

Wow, a Member-Only set? Just irks me it's motorized, I know it'd be hard to make it move by itself, but it's ironic for a windmill. It's like a flux capacitor relica that actually either pushes electricity away or drains it- I don't know which seems more polar-opposite!

@Cisco-Kid: I was actually thinking about this, with my amateur electrical engineering skills I could prolly rig this to work like a real "windmill" and power the lights and motors in a Lego town. I actually just opened up LDD to see if I could build something similar to the picture, It's coming along pretty well actually.....anyone know where I can find better pictures of it?

The electric motor can be used as a generator. I'm sure it won't be long until someone tweaks the blades, bearings and electronics to make this a functional (albeit tiny) generator.
