Top Gear Races Nissan GT-R Vs. Bullet Train In Japan
Posted by Gizmodo US Edition at 9:00 AM on July 16, 2008
The Top Gear crew is in Japan for this week's episode and they've got another heated race for us: A Nissan GT-R R35, a gadget car by dynamic handling and Playstation inspired dashboard vs. a bullet train, running both from Japan's northern Hakui-Shi coast to Tokyo. With no surprise ol' Clarkson is driving the fiery beast while Hammond and May are left travelling Japanese public transportation. I'm not gonna spoil the race for ya though, but Jalopnik has the results for you. [Jalopnik]

Too bad this is the slower bullet trains, and not the faster ones that travel between Hiroshima, Osaka, Nagoya, and Tokyo.

@Leonard Nimrod:
From the looks of it, it is just the GT-R vs Japanese Public Transport segment.

This is my favorite show on either side of the pond. Thank you Bram Cohen for creating BitTorrent. Without it I may have never found Top Gear.
@Git Em SteveDave is a poor substitute for LindsayJoy: Is that just the bullet train segment or the whole episode?

iPlayer's response: "This doesn't seem to be working. Try again later." I recall hearing that the iPlayer doesn't work outside of the UK.
Four-piece YouTube series will have to do. Things could be worse.

The 700 series is indeed the slower one (not even going 200 mph). Pity that they didn't take the 500 series.
anywhoo, great episode!

Best show ever. I hope Adam Carolla doesn't screw up the American version too badly.
I convinced one of my Xbox loving PS3 hating friends to get a PS3 solely based on the news that Top Gear is coming to Gran Turismo 5 in October.

Sorry, OT but... does anyone else have a problem with Giz posts showing up twice in Google Reader? This post, for example, posted at 8:05 (EST) and again at 8:28. I have a feeling that this happens every time there's an edit to a post. Is there a different feed I can get to avoid this?

@Captain Bringdown:
I'm assuming you're making a joke at the correct English (in both the linguistic and patriotic sense) pronunciation, still better than hearing n-I-san, (note the omitted 's' causing capitalised pronunciation of the vowel.

I'd say the public transport probably would have won if the GTR was driven obeying the driving laws... but that was an enjoyable watch.

@gamecrazychris: BBC America, Monday nights at 8 and 9. However, they are about 1 whole season behind, so just get the torrent like 50,000 other people every week.

Great film, great cinematography, great editing, great music, great show. I've been watching it for years and years, even since getting high speed interwebs, and it's definitely worth the download.

while their epic races are cute and entertaining, they are hardly educational.there are always conditions going to that bias it for the car. for example, wheras a normal person might catch a cab to where the train/boat/plane might be leaving from, they have to walk a crazy distance to other public transport.
still the rapport between those three are great to watch.
