T-Mobile 3G Nationwide Launch Oct. 1st?
TmoNews has an anony-tip that they'll be firing up their 3G network in those 20+ top markets on Oct. 1. The rumour's fairly squishy, but it's not totally whack—T-mo promised to roll out 3G in major markets throughout the year, plus we'd heard those top markets would be balling along by the end of it. So, even if it's later than October, it won't be too much later. Hopefully. [TmoNews]

@dmitriyo:
So even an overseas 3G iPhone would not work on T-Mo 3G in the US? Ok, I didn't know that ... that sucks even more.
Thanks for the info :)

Mobile networks suck balls on the western side of the atlantic !
I'm on T-Mobile in the UK and they have been great for me, I get web n walk (HSDPA internet through my samsung u900) at 2Mbps, this is being upgraded over the summer up to 5Mbps. 2GB monthly download cap but web n walk only costs me £8 on top of my contract (About £22 for free phone 500 Texts and 500 minutes)
Seems Canadians and Americans both suffer from lack of competition in your mobile phone industries, AT&T seem to have strangled all your upgrades for years, All of us poor old europeans are looking forward to 4G in a year and a half or so........

@aelver:
Indeed that is true. The T-Mobile 3g network has a new frequency different of that from ATT and almost the rest of the world for 3g, so phone manufacturers have to make T-Mobile USA specific 3g phones. I do not know why no one writes about this at all.

This is what Canadians get for having all their GSM networks (FIDO and Rogers) owned by the same company.
For $60 a month, and a 3 year contract, you get 150 minutes a month of talk time, unlimited nights and weekends (from 7pm), 400 mb of data (a month), 75 text messages, and visual voicemail. Call display, is extra.
No competition means the customer always pay's more. So I'm thrilled the US is getting another 3G network. If anything, it will mean better prices down the road for you.

T-mobile is the worst... the only reason i have their service is because i work for them. service does not work half the time. its just pure crap.

I thought the initial launch was to off load voice calls from their older network onto the new network and then data would come later.
Either way, you pay peanuts you get a monkey and thats TMobile for you. Its dirt cheap... try getting unlimited and I mean truly unlimited data from AT&T or Verigay I mean Verizon..
Sprint has PAM (phone as modem) but that costs more and is limited to 5GB. I dont mind tmobile, it works well and besides the cost of roaming internationally I am yet to visit a country where my phone didnt work during my travels.

I cant believe people are bitching that tmobiles 3G network is not compatible with a phone that is not meant to fun on their network. RETARDS.
TMo won the spectrum for 1700. Live with it. .. die without it. HAhAHAHAHAhhahah!

@aelver: I doubt that because the iphone runs on the 1900mhz band.
But its about time that t-mo comes out with the 3G network. I hope their network runs like its on steroids because im gonna be browsing my ass off as soon as i get my 3G phone. Im praying for that xperia to be out soon because if it isnt im going to be spitting fire.

Are they launching UMTS or HSPA (or Evolved HSPA)? all different versions of 3G.
I hope they have a well improved backhaul that can carry all the traffic that is going to go their way. According to this report at [www.internetevolution.com] the rate of growth for data traffic of four to eight fold (and that's an underestimate)

TMo isn't so bad. I have a family plan here in Phoenix with the internet package (for my iPhone), 2000 minutes, unlimited text and pics, free nights/weekends and free Tmo to Tmo for $160. We never go over our minutes (my mother uses the most...)
Service works everywhere, but edge is a little slow. When 3G comes out in Phoenix I probably will not switch because iLove my iPhone too much.

Ok...let's compare why T-Mobile US sucks vs. T-Mobile UK..
US 1000 Min - $39 (Unlimited nights / weekends)
UK 500 Min - £22 ($43) includes 500sms
US Total Internet (tethering, unlimited date (yes..on EDGE for now) is $19
UK Web'n'walk - Approx $16 extra (capped at 2 GB)
US 1000 SMS - $9.00 - Total for the US - $70
Let's see what you pay with the comparable plan
There's no lack of competition... We have Three CDMA networks (which for the record I hate) and 2 GSM - For an average Joe it doesn't make a difference whether she/he goes the CDMA or GSM path..so the competition is here. T-Mobile beats anyone on the price and when they'll flip the switch on a nationwide 3G - they will kick everyone's ass. It's already known that it will be an HSDPA from day 1 so I think we'll be seeing good things coming out of Magenta network.

So does this mean that we (the subscribers) will finally get a decent Smart/Multi-Media phone from T-Mobile ?... Maybe a HTC Pro, SE Xperia, OR maybe even (GASP!) a N series Nokia to go with their upcoming 3G network?... Seriously, I hate T-Mobile's phone offerings. If it wasn't for my awesomely cheap plan (unlimited data included, over Edge of course...), I would have jumped ship ages ago... I'm soooo sick sick sick siiiccckkk of the lame stuff we get here in the states, and remind me again why it is that AT&T always manages to get ALL of the cool exclusives?... Why is it that AT&T gets the IPhone and possibly SE's new and upcoming Xperia (when it comes out), while we get stuck with Motorola's E8 (yuck, no thanks. Seriously T-Mobile, get with it already!!!)?.... Some exclusive, if you ask me... Don't get me wrong, I own a unlocked Nokia N95 8GB (which I happily paid full price for on eBay from an importer thankyouverymuch), however it would just make things sweeter and a whole lot easier to swallow if they just offered a half way decent phone with up to date features and usability that I would be willing to extend my contract over in exchange for a subsidy on it's cost to go with their behind the times cheap-o service...

Actually, weren't they talking about rebranding and repackaging the touch Diamond as the new Shadow II (paired down with less functionality or something) a while back on Tmo's network with their upcoming US 3G bands on board?... I hope that's not all, but knowing Tmo USA that may be all we get from them on the new 3G phone sporting front... A person can only take so many Razors and Pearls before totally losing it!

it's about time!! the main question is... what phones will be available on launch? i haven't heard any specifics about which of the next gen smartphones will have the chips to deal with TMO USA's very unique 3G implementation.

I just found this on Tmo news forums, and it sounds somewhat plausible when you consider Tmo's history when releasing new handsets here in the states... Check it out and let me know what you all think. Whatever the case it's a little underwhelming if you ask me, and if it all turns out to be true, then I'm definitely a little disappointed... :( It looks like there won't be a SE Xperia for me in my immediate future sporting Tmo 3G goodness...

Well - There are a lot of other phones out there that don't work well with service providers in the US. I've been on TMO for 6 years in MN and my experiences with Qwest, Sprint & AT&T, prove TMO is a decent provider. It's nice they are hopping on the 3G-wagon even-though it is as late as it is.
