TiVo Gets Announced… Does Anybody Care?

We knew it was happening, but Channel 7 today officially launched the Australian version of TiVo. We weren’t there, but we’ve grabbed a copy of the press release and had a read of Asher Moses’ piece on SMH, and have to say that we’re not inspired.

For a start, the press release is full of smacktalk. Now, I know Channel 7 enjoys the smacktalk, but in a press release? Have a read for your self:

“The TiVo HD DVR brings you all the features, and more, that until now were only available to pay television customers. Why pay monthly fees for pay television when 56% of pay television viewing is on the free channels anyway?”

But the real disappointment isn’t in the press release. It’s in the details. Like the fact that some of TiVo’s core features will be gimped at launch, only to be switched on at a later date for a fee in the “tens of dollars”.

I am a stay at home mum with young ones and very rarely get to watch a show in peice unless i tape it on a VCR or just watch some cr*p show on TV at that time when they are asleep.
MY Parents have a similar product to Tivo and i love it, they tape all there shows when they are at work and watch them on their days off and so it goes on every week, it saves watching Sh*t when you could be enjoying a show you really want to watch.
I would spend the $700 bucks just so i could watch Dr Phil without interuption.
P.s i am not a computer wiz though so to much tech stuff scares me :)

Hehe are you guys serious? I bought one today after thinking about it for hmmm… three heartbeats?

I think the fact that we only have 5 FTA channels is more reason to get one – there isn’t enough free hours in the day to just sit there waiting for a good show to come on.

The simplicity of use (and features for that matter)is also a plus – we are talking television here not rocket science.

I am dissapointed that Tivo Desktop and storage expandability aren’t available straight out of the box but hey, I can wait. I’m happy to pay for extra services as long as Tivo doesn’t move to a monthly subscription model…

    Anyhow, satisfied user here.

BTW no ad skipping but you can fast forward them.
