The T3 Makes a Guy Wearing a Bike Helmet on a Scooter Scary as Hell
Posted by Sean Fallon at 7:20 AM on July 1, 2008
For the most part, I wouldn't consider a police officer or military personnel riding down the road on a scooter as intimidating. However, if that scooter happens to be Lamperd Less Lethal's new T3 Mobile Defender, there is definitely something to be worried about. The vehicle comes equipped with a powerful air gun that is considered non-lethal in a body shot, but could potentially kill someone if they were to take a synthetic bullet to the head. That is why the gun utilises a holographic sight system to ensure accuracy.
"An eyepiece shows a red target dot, and then transmits an image of the target to a monitor, which relays the information to the gun." According to creator Barry Lamperd, if the holographic sight is on target, you can't miss. Let's hope so--because the company plans to sell the scooter to the US Army to use in crowd control situations (presumably in Iraq), and it will probably make its way down to local law enforcement somewhere down the line. What if there was a gust of wind?
That would screw up its accuracy....
Does the computer system account for when there is a light breeze or blustery day?
Its wonderful to know that our officers and brave men overseas are armed with the same technology that powers nerf guys. It basically has the same warning not to aim at aim at face...

Not even a very good one.
(I thought the barrel looked like it was kind of just floating there. And those fonts are horrible.)
The T3 is the in-use-deployed scooter, and the "mobile Defender" is the photoshopped air-gun with holographic sights. Kind of a "Dork My Ride" experience.

I saw something that looked very similar to this in the MSP airport last week- I didn't notice the Airgun, but that Dalek-looking profile with chrome bike mags in back and the phat front tire is tough to mistake.

That thing will work great in Iraq - imagine what an RPG will do to the cop or soldier driving it, crowd control my ass, might as well sign up as a test duck during open duck season. Can anyone say painted target? Might as well be a pee-shooter. Some muslim extremist is drooling at the thought of planting an IED and taking bets on how high that thing can fly (in pieces). They'll be picking up body parts in Afghanistan with that thing.

Wow... I think I just saw two of these last week here in Pasadena, CA, in use by our esteemed PD. They looked.... kinda geeky. I guess these are good for for parking patrol, maybe traffic control in areas where traffic suffers the slow drive (I've seen foot-cops and bike-cops pull over cars).

@LindsayJoy's MBP is into S+M: Probably not that big of a concern given the small size of the projectile and the velocity it would have to be going in order to really work as a "non-lethal" weapon. That being said, if the officer had to fire quickly or the target moved or any number of other factors came into play...
Blamo right in the face.

@styrofoam: I thought the same thing when I looked at this picture. I recently flew out of MSP and while I was there I saw that "scooter" just parked in the middle of the concourse outside the food court (most likely the owner stopped for a doughnut). I wanted to take it for a spin but decided that probably wouldn't be wise...lol. As styrofoam noted I did not notice the airgun but it was absolutely this "scooter".
