The Beam Bed Makes Drooling on the Pillow a Divine Experience
Posted by Mark Wilson at 12:00 AM on July 23, 2008
There's nothing particularly technologically innovative about the Beam Bed, but it uses a sunburst-shaped lighting and support system to emit a glorious glow that's perfect for wooing the ladies/thwarting the monsters. As we've long been scared of both said species, we're pleased to see that the furniture market is finally catering to our insecurities with no shortage of style. Now just to find some plastic "rainburst" sheets and all of our sleeping abnormalities will be cured at last. [Lago via CribCandy]

Just what I needed, confirmation of my worst fear that there really IS a door to an alternate universe under my bed.
(That same universe also eats single socks as I always seem to be able to find just ONE.)

@shades_of_blue: I hear those mattresses don't breath well and thus you get all sweaty while you sleep. True?
Also, don't tell Tempur-pedic what bed frame you use. They won't hire a PI.

I like it, but will it void the warranty on my Tempur-pedic mattress? From the design, it looks like they use nothing more than flat panel to rest the mattress on…Tempur-pedic would not look too kindly on that.

Man: "I'm sorry. This is never happened to me before. Maybe if we give it a few minutes..."
Woman: (Sigh.) "Will you please just turn off the beam bed? It's sad now."

Get the artist who painted this bathroom floor to paint the floor of the bedroom, then you'll really have the drama covered.

Can we combine this with the levitating bed, to get the full UFO experience?

That design is so awesome. Even without the bright light it would look cool. You wouldn't have to have the mattress directly resting on the vertical pieces either, there could be a thin panel on top that wouldn't be visible unless you were looking for it if its very slightly smaller than the mattress. I almost want to build one of these.

I don't know. I would have gone a completely different direction with the article text. A direction that involves this looking like something out of a Stephen King movie. More nightmares, not less.
