Tennis Racquet With Built-In Hand Dryer For Control Superfreaks
Posted by Sean Fallon at 4:00 AM on July 14, 2008
If you suffer from a debilitating case of hand sweat while playing tennis, the folks at Control Freek are offering up a solution with their new air circulating tennis racquets. Using the latest is wiffle technology, Control Freek has cut some high tech holes in their handle and added scoops to trap and circulate air to your palms while you play.
Sweat-free hands equal a sure grip, a sure grip equals better tennis, and better tennis equals a US$275 racquet. Sure there are products out there that cost less--but look at the dude pictured above. Only those who are extreme enough to wear a suit and boxing gloves while playing tennis are worthy of a Control Freek racquet. [Control Freek via Inventor Spot via The Design Blog]

You would think that 275 dollars would get you some technology that helps you hit better like the head crossbow or the volkl power arm. Instead you get this garbage that keeps your hands dry which will be great when you hit the ball because you'll get so much feedback that if your hands are slick at all you'll end up throwing the racquet further than the ball travels.

At first glance I was half expecting a rechargeable Li-ion battery running a couple small fans...

@Y2KGTP: If this were made by Thanko, then yeah, it would have small fans... and a USB port of course :P

I play and teach a ton of tennis (UTSA 4.5, though more recently a 3.5 because of my fatness) and when I look at this product I am saddened.
First, most people's sweat comes from the arm and makes its way down to the hand (hence wristbands); second, if you're sweating that much you can go in for one of those snake-oil sweaty palm surgeries; and third, like Snake says above, you can get much better technology (or just a $4 always dry and tacky overgrip) at a much better price (though I wouldn't necessarily recommend the rackets that he mentions for most players -- I also don't quite understand his last sentence).
People, if you are interested in this racket at all, seriously think twice and go to a reputable, knowledgeable salesperson.
