Telstra plays it simple, all business

Telstra was a sedate affair, but kudos to them for making it pure business. They had plenty of staff in T[life], some queue space inside the warm premises (it was frosty frosty out on George St with a nasty ice wind to boot), plus flyers with the official plan details so you could make up your mind in the 10 seconds before purchase. Actually, they were taking the time to talk people through their current usage patterns and which way they should lean... but couldn't tell how many people were being told "20MB outta be enough for anyone" (remember that isn't even the LOWEST data plan).
However, there was no love given to the gathered queue, which by time of opening was around 80-100 strong. Given the icy conditions, it was a bit too "pure business" to show them absolutely no love -- doesn't compare well to the competition who were all treating queue members to warm drinks and tasty treats. There's a "leaving people out in the cold" allusion here I can't quite put my finger on...

well it is a government owned bussiness.Anything they gave you you would be paying for anyway with your taac dollars

Telstra are delusional! I rang up the complaints line, because I felt they should know why I'm about to take my business to an alternative provider. The lady on the phone said that they would have undertaken a lot of research to come up with these plans! I said you had to be kidding. 80MB a month on a $60 plan?? They can't be serious?!?
I swore I'd never use Optus again, but there's no way I'm getting an iPhone via Telstra.

Anyone having trouble buying the iPhone from telstra at the moment? I've just tried to find out from them how much it will cost to terminate my contract only to be told that their system in down nation wide and to call back on monday. Does this mean that you cant even buy the iPhone from telstra at the moment too?

Telstra is not government owned any more in fact telstra is ownded by more mum and dad share holders than most companies so get your facts straight .

Wow Melbourne were much better with T-Life, 150-200 people waiting coming round saying hi handing out lollies to everyone and apples, and telstra bought the queue coffee/tea hot choclates from starbucks next door. Was quick and in and out fast they did great!

I can't believe how hard it is to buy an iPhone through Telstra. If you call their call centre NO ONE knows when it will be available to buy via phone, or when it will be available from other stores. Each time I call I get a different answer. One promised I could buy one from this morning over the phone. So I was on the phone at 8am and guess what - WRONG ANSWER. In NSW it's only available from 3 stores! Compared to it's competitors I have found the lack of information available - esp from call centre employees who should have been briefed properly - completely unacceptable. The whole exercise has been poorly handled.
