Star Wars Meets Classic Art
Posted by Mark Wilson at 11:15 PM on July 21, 2008
Those Photoshoppers over at Worth 1000 decided to mash up Star Wars with some of the world's most famous pieces of art (and we're like 99% certain that it was meant as a joke). This remix of M.C. Escher's famous Hand with Reflecting Sphere has to be the most brilliant, with traces of the Death Star looming in the background next to a Escher's psychiatrist officesque workspace. For more reimagined pretentious college freshman art, hit the link. [Worth 1000 via digg]

Why would the Emperor even hold the sphere? He could just levitate it using the Force. What a waste of motion.
Hey, if you have one reflecting ball in one hand, and another reflecting ball in the other, what do you have?
The Silver Surfer's undivided attention.

@Wegmans: Agreed. This (to me) is a dis at Escher. Where is the distortion of the Emperor?

The DaVinci sketch with R2D2 is coo! in it's vague similarity to Banksy's "Early Man Goes to Market " That similarity ends when you realize it's Banksy's guerrilla installation that makes it art not just the imagery.

I can't believe that it took this long to do this specific Escher piece, I would have though we would have seen it a long time ago.
Not bad, though, not bad.

I just don't see the love for Grievous. His robo-body was cool and all, but he lost serious cool points with "You must realize, that you are dooomed!"

There are five good pictures in the bunch (Godward Padme, Pet, Flowers of Naboo, Reverie Princess, and Da Vinci's plans for R2D2). The rest are even poor by most basic photoshop standards.

I'm pretty sure surrealism is not "classic" art.
