Sony Ad's HDTV Hungers for the Sweet Flesh of a Blu-ray Player

This new Sony Vaio ad, created by 180 in Los Angeles, features an HDTV that swallows up a Blu-ray player like a Venus Fly Trap. It's pretty awesome. I think I'd enjoy any ad that has large gadgets devouring smaller ones in an animalistic fashion. [Space Invaders via NotCot]

When I first saw this on TV I thought it was an ad for an upcoming all Blu-Ray/Sony HDTV, which I thought would've been cool and interesting. I was a bit disappointed when it turned out to be an ad for their new laptops. Still a cool spot, though.

The ad is definitely cool as most of Sonys TV ads are but why the TV and Blu-ray player = Laptop?
Would it have been easier to just have an old laptop eating a Blu-ray player?
Hmmm

There's another one that's similar. I, too, thought it was for a TV with built in Blu-ray. Still, I love their ads.

So, when do they release this TV that eats other gadgets? I have a lot of old technology sitting around the house that I would love to feed this thing and see what it makes.

@efenili:
Because the new Vaio plays movies in 1080p, just like HDTVs. The new Vaio will have the xbr engine too. I have a Vaio AR- blu-ray movies look just as good as they do on an HDTV.

This ad was cool the first time I saw it, but then I realized it played in every single commercial break on Hulu.com. It became old fast.

I was the Blu-Ray player. The HDTV was the Best Buy salesman.
The laptop is my just desserts.

Why not have an ad where a PS3 eats up a Home Theater receiver and shits out speaker connectors in the back? That would've been a lot nicer.

I was hoping for a TV w/ built-in BluRay :(
Ah oh well, I'll just wait for a cheap external BluRay drive for my MBP to watch movies on..

That was pretty frickin sweet, lol.
Still, I was rather nonplussed by the guy's nonchalant attitude about the laptop. Woulda been way funnier if he like witnessed it and freaked out.
But i guess that really wasn't what they were going for, lol.
Still, I dunno that i'd want a blu-ray player in my laptop. I'm sure it would *destroy* batteries, and I dunno that i'd want to bring BDs around to watch on a dinky laptop screen after getting to my location.
If anything, I guess i'll *eventually* get a BD-rom for my desktop (prolly when i get a new desktop, heh). But I think I'll wait for a BD-RW.

The tv should've sucked out the insides of the Blu-Ray player...now that woulda rocked!
